Pre-race routine:

Alarm went off at 5:50 AM, I turned it off and laid back down for 15-20 minutes. Got up headed to the potty and did my morning business. Got dressed and headed down stairs, where my daughter waited. I didn't grab anything to eat right away. I don't like to eat first thing in the morning. As I was driving I ate a cliff bar and drank some water. Got the my mom's house to pick her up and headed to the race site.

Got there parked and got signed up. Nothing else special or worth noting.
Event warmup:

Jogged to the start area, got in line at the porta potty and waited for a while. Peed 5 minutes prior to the race and headed to the start line.

Comments:

The start was a typical start for these races, lots of bodies in a tight area. This was good on the one hand, since it forces me to slow down and not head out too fast. I was trying to take it easy since I really didn't want to blow up on this race. I was looking at trying to break 55:00 but just could not hold it together for that.

Nothing really special happened during the 2,3,4 miles passed my daughter as she was headed to the turn around (she was at mile 2.3 and I was hitting mile 3 I think.) Passed my mom as she was passing mile 2, she was race walking.

About mile 5 I started feeling a little tired, ended up slowing down even though I didn't mean to. Passed mile 5 and started mile 6, that is when I got a side cramp, and I could also tell I was hitting my threshhold. I tried to run it out, and blow it out, but I just needed to slow it down and walk a bit.

Finally had the cramp leave so I ran to finish out. I was going to push hard to finish out strong, but I just finished as best as I could at that point.

Crossed the finish line and took 4 steps, felt like I was going to puke and it stayed down. Took 2-3 more steps and it came up, right in the weeds beside the path.
What would you do differently?:

Train a little harder and longer. Many of the runs I have completed have been 4-5 miles, when I hit 6 miles I can tell I have out run my fitness level to a degree.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back down the path until I ran into Trigirl10, turned around and ran with her back to the finish line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

See above comments.

Event comments:

Another cheap race for ORRRC. They manage to put on LOTS of races each month. Most of them cost $2.00 for club members, they have a whole host of awards and this time they even had door prizes for EVERYONE. I got a T-shirt, my daughter got a $5.00 gift cert for a local resturant. They had a couple nicer prizes, like 100.00 stay at a local hotel.

Hey, puking just means you gave it your all.  Just wait until this fall and winter when the humidity and temps are lower.  You'll get to 55 min!  Nice to be able to share time a race with your daughter and mom.  What an awesome job by the RD getting all those doorprizes together for everyone.
