Swim
Comments: A goal for this race was to swim as hard as I can the whole way. I didn't care if I died after the swim, I just wanted to swim fast. So went I got finished, I was a little spent from the swim and my time still sucked. Though it sucked less than usual. I felt like I was catching good drafts, navigating good, and pushing it. But I still have a long way to go to get swimming up to my other sports. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I gave it all I had and I was happy with my effort. Transition 1
Comments: First race with my new Tri shoes. I pre-clipped them to the bike. They worked great. So overall I was very happy with T1 Bike
Comments: My plan was to red line the bike. And that I did. I don't think my HR got below 157 and it generally stayed in the low 160's. At the 6 mile turn around I moved up into 12th place right on Rob's tail. I picked up a couple more spot before T2 and was somewhere around 7th or 8th at T2. Coming into town I think we picked up a headwind, because I swear we were going down hill and it was all I could do to keep my speed about 18mph. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the effort. What would you do differently?: The day before I picked up a LG Rocket to try out at the race. Well, my big noggin takes a large and I brought up a small. Just one of the many small idiot things I do to keep my life exciting. Transition 2
Comments: I decided to try the run without socks so it speed things up a little bit. What would you do differently?: nada Run
Comments: My legs were fairly shot from hammering the bike and both my quads and calves were cramping up. I had a feeling this was going to be a little painful. I took 2 lava salts and may my way out the the woods. As soon as I hit the woods the trail went straight up. I really wasn't ready for it and didn't have my run legs on so I went up the best I could. I was passed at that point by someone I was jockying with the whole bike ride. I was passed again at the 1.2 mile long hill. I finally got my HR down and settle into a pace at about 1.5 miles and with no one in sight behind me, I cruised it home. Overall a tough run but I'm happy that I suffered though it and didn't let up. There is no way that it was only a 5k though. What would you do differently?: If I were to race this race properly, I would have save something for the run. Post race
Warm down: nothing Event comments: The trail run, though challenging, was fun and different. The bike course was surprisingly flat for a ski town with good roads and the lake was clean and pretty clear. It was a challenging sprint and one that I'll do again. Bringing home hardware was definitely nice as well. Last updated: 2007-08-06 12:00 AM

There was two transitions so being the spazz I usually am before the race it took me a while to set things up. Chatted with Rob for a bit before the race and hung out a bit with my wife and kids.
With the swim being my limiter and this race being swim heavy, I really didn't expect much so I focused on using this race to as a tempo/threshold brick training day.
About a 100 yard easy swim.
