Sunny
Total Time = 5h 03m 21s
Overall Rank = 223/772
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 32/151
Pre-race routine:

1 Power Gel 20 minutes before the start
Event warmup:

5 minutes in the water before the start. No run or bike warm-up.
Swim
  • 35m 7s
  • 1900 meters
  • 01m 51s / 100 meters
Comments:

first 1000m where very crowded.
visibility was nihil.
Was prepared for a tough start with a mass start in the water but the crowd lasted much longer than expected.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more agressivly through the mass and fight for my position in the water. I was too passive and cought by suprise.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
What would you do differently?:

fix shoes on bike and go barefoot out of T1. Not to gain time with putting shoes on, but running appr 200m to the T1 exit with bike shoes is not optimal.
Bike
  • 2h 45m 56s
  • 90 kms
  • 32.54 km/hr
Comments:

Pacing went well. The last 20km against the wind where tough...
Nutrition went wel:
Lost almost all the Gatorade on the rail road crossings and cobble stones...
1 power Gel every 20 minutes.
total of 4 water bottle and appr. one Gatorade
What would you do differently?:

train more on the bike. More endurance and strength needed...
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

went fine.
What would you do differently?:

Get feet out of shoes before dismount and run barefoot to bike raking
Run
  • 1h 37m 15s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 04m 37s  min/km
Comments:

Hot. And overheated!!!
Nutrition: 1 power Gel per lap (5km) for the first 3. On the last lap I skipped it.
Drank enough I think.
What would you do differently?:

CouldnĀ“t doo much to keep cooler. There was not enought cooling provided by the organisation.
Maybe going out a little slower would have been overall more efficient?
Post race
Warm down:

none. felt very bad for over 1/2 an hour after the race. Probably overheating.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Run: The heat.
Lack of bike speed.

Event comments:

Not enough aid stations. Especially for te run, more cold water to cool down was needed.
