Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 313/755
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 45/59
Event warmup:

Short swim to get a feel for the water.
Swim
  • 12m 48s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

First Mass start OWS, in fact first OWS with anything other than a swim buddy, was more beaten and abused than I had imagined. The swim was also a bit bigger in real life, if that makes sense.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time swimming, be better prepared overall. More time OWS as well.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Apparently I was in there longer than I had thought. Managed to get a good spot on the racks early in the day tho, and think that helped quite a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Will have to work on this, perhaps making a few changes along the way, perhaps next time going shirtless, or using a tri-top in the swim
Bike
  • 46m 7s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 19.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Well... Of the three events this one appears to be my strong suit. It felt good and fast, and apparently I was climbing good as well. The hill at the end got quite a few folks tho...
What would you do differently?:

Work on turning at a higher speed and drinking better.
Not raise seat 2 days before race without getting in time to adjust to the change.
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

was in a bit of pain in the rump from having raised the saddle a few days prior, and lost some good time sitting down, then having to fight myself to get back up.
What would you do differently?:

Same shirtless/tri-top comment from T1 applies, I changed from a bike jersey into a t-shirt, and got slowed up by this.
Sitting down hurt like a mofo as well. Wont do that again, and will need to get tri shoes for the bike, and a good set of runners to help smoothe out some of these transitions.
Run
  • 34m 4s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Running sucks. Managed to Run/Walk most of this course, and it didn't suck as much as I imagined. Though looking at my age group results, I've got quite a bit of work to do in this area.
What would you do differently?:

More work here, like the swim.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of water/accelerade, walked some, got in the water to cool down.
Pictures with the kids, they loved it too.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

More training would have helped quite a bit. Overall surviving my first was where I wanted to be.

Event comments:

Not having any prior experience to draw on, this was a very good, very well put together race.

Wasn't this one of your first triathlons, if not your first? Look at you in the top half overall! YAY!
Way to go!!!!

OWS takes some getting used to, especially if you weren't ever a competetive swimmer. I think the more times you get out there the more comfy you will feel. Way to rock the bike!!!!

Great job on your first race. Every race is a learning experience.

Getting really good on transitions is "free speed". You'll only get faster from here on as you decide what's necessary and what's not. In sprints and Olys; no socks or top changing allowed, never sit down, and always have a plan.

For future reference; consider this race a well organized one. You'll quickly recognize one that's not.
