Subject: track workouts?
looking to improve on my running pace, so i decided i need to concentrate on more interval training at the track. i went to the track the other day and did some 400's and pacing.

how much rest should i have in btwn intervals or sets?

i used to swim so i'm familiar with what makes sense for swim workouts, but i'm clueless with track workouts.

anyone have any good track workouts? ideas? please share.

btw, i'm training for a sprint.

Looking quickly at your logs, it appears you need to run more.  Stay off the track for now.

Looking at your logs I might suggest that you might benefit from upping your mileage rather than speedwork at the track.

For me at least, doing higher mileage offered much more benefits than speedwork and was my primary focus over the past year. The idea is that improvements in running economy are a cheap and easy.

Faster running is not the only benefit of improved running economy. I became much less injury prone and my recovery time (From hard training as well as races) improved quite a bit.

Just be sure to follow the rules when ramping up the mileage:

1). Don't increase by more than 10%
2). Follow the Hard/Easy Principle
3). Schedule Regular Cutback Weeks
4). Listen to your body and get plenty of Rest

Good luck

thanks for the tip, i guess i should have figured out that up-ing the mileage was the key.

guess i blocked out the obvious since i really don't enjoy running that much, or at least for more than 30 mins or so.

i'll up the mileage and hope for faster times.

X3 for upping your mileage. Running is a bit different from swimming. With swiming you can start doing sets of 5X200s once you have a little bit of aerobic ability. Do that with running and you risk hurting yourself or at best, becoming so sore that your next workouts are worthless. Just run, keep upping the distance comfortably (10% per week is a golden rule). With time you can put in some tempo runs where your runs are broken up into longer blocks of faster and slower. Be patient. You don't want to come back here in two months asking for advice on how to get rid of ITB, shin-splint, or stress-fracture problems. Good luck.
