Pre-race routine:

Pretty much carbon copy of last year. Bueller came out to visit, got up about 4:30 left about 5, arrived a little earlier than last year about 5:45 (used different parking garage entrance!) and had plenty of time to hit the porta-john and stretch. Could have used some more sleep, about 2:30 or so a storm blew through and we were up and in the yard tying to save stuff from blowing away. Guess we need a new umbrella for the table.
Event warmup:

Just some stretching.
Run

  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

It was very hot and humid. Not sure on exact temp, but I was drenched by mile 2. Took off shirt at about 6. I knew it would be a tough run and it was. Was a good mental challenge to keep going after mile 10. Legs were in pain and I knew if I stopped or walked, I probably would not start again. Did a good job drinking at every station.
What would you do differently?:

Needed to train more. With work, family, travel and being sick, it was hard and did what I could, but clearly wasn't 100% ready.
Post race
Warm down:

Towel, food, some walking and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, leg strength, heat/humidity.

Course: Similar to last year, I think the end was changed a little. Wind through the city for about the first 4 miles, then down past Soldier Field and McCormick place, turn around an run up the lakefront to Planetarium and behind Shedd's.
