Looks like the race originally scheduled for Stoney Creek has found a home at the PLRA. Date of the event is Sept. 16th. I was originally planning on doing the Novi FIT triathlon for my 1st event but am torn now on the PLRA event. The event at PLRA sounds nicer with a lot less congestion on the roads than the event in Novi. Any opinions?

Don't know if you ended up doing Novi today or not, but I held out of that one because it sounded like it would be alot of congestion. Kinda like they just found a place and threw in a tri. I don't know though, I've heard things both ways.

But I'm excited for the PLRA one. It's literally five minutes from my house and while I haven't ridden the bike course yet, I know it, and it should be a good ride. It's got some decent hills on it. Considering it's the first time there, there is likely to be a little confusion, but 3D does a great job with all of their events, and anything that they don't get right this year, they'll definitely adjust next year. Like I said, I'm excited for this one.

There are 2 tri's in Novi. Today was the FAST Island Lake Triathlon (not the Island Lake Recreational Area Tri next week). and then their is the new Fit Novi at Walled Lake.

I don't think the Fit Novi course should be to crowded. Either way good luck on which ever one you choose.

Just curious to why you think it won't be crowded? Is this the first year for this race? I'm already registered, so not crowded is fine with me.

I thought that because they are devoting one lane to bikes on the two lane roads, and the women start 1 hr before the men.

But looking again I see its a 3 loop course.

And on Sat. The men may have some shoppers to contend with.

5230 ft in a mile (4 mile loop) 20920. 300 participants (assume 50/50 split) so 150 on the road at a time. more than 1000 ft per rider. even if you have 300 you got 500 ft per rider.

But I do see where the concern is.

I'll be there.

Rode 19 miles of the course last week, as I'm not familiar with the area and was surprised by the rolling hills. Should make the legs burn good before getting on the run.

Were you at Novi on Saturday?

No, I decided a couple of weeks ago to switch my 1st Tri from the Novi one to the PLRA one. So, Sunday will be my big day. Any idea what to expect from a total number of participants?

Not sure, but I figure it will be pretty busy with an oly, sprint and du going on, especially with double points. The first and last part of the bike, between the state park and White Lake Rd could prove interesting as it may be tough to pass. I'm curious how that will be setup, guess will find out Sunday.

Im in.. i grew up around there... the only potential problem with the bike course is the first couple of miles if it gets too congested with people trying to pass right away. Then its just long rolling hills that you can gain good speed on to head up the next. Nothing bad at all. I hope it turns out to be good overall!

I'm in as well for the sprint. I think I peaked about a month ago - too much travel and beer lately, but it's the last one of the year so lets giddyup!

Should be a cool morning with forecasted lows in the mid 40's. May need to wear something extra on the bike if temps are to cool.

Anyone wants to say hi, I ride a yellow Softride beam bike. I haven't seen any of these at my races this year, so it's not hard to spot.

Ill be in a black/yellow Infinite Multisport outfit, and have a black Specialized Transition. Female about 5'4. The Infinite outfit should be the giveaway. Yeah it looks cold, but it will be nice not to meltdown on the run!

I know it's a few days off, but the NWS site is reporting a Saturday night low of 39 for Pontiac/Waterford. Yikes.

Better let me know what color your winter parka and muk luks are

I may have to dig through the cold weather riding gear.

This should prove to be interesting.

I will look for you guys. I too should be hard to miss. I am 6'4" tall 250lbs. I will be in all black tri shorts and shirt and probably black visor. Bike is a grey Giant TCR. I will have absolutely no cold weather gear on once the race starts because I think I'm a tough guy.

I'll be swimming in a pair of jammers, not sure if I'll throw on a under armour top. Red Trek 1500. Since this will be my first tri I look forward to meeting some of the folks from the board.

This is my first tri too and I'm psyched for it. I've only done duathlons to this point because of swimming skills. Been swimming a few days per week for the last 6 weeks and am now comfortable (not fast) in water.

I have a black Cervelo P2 SL and will have FAST (tri club) shorts on and if it is cold will have a yellow windbreaker on top. 5'9" male, 40. I usually bring my sonds old white towel with Scooby Do on it to spot my bike in transition.

Good luck to all and have a great race. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Good luck to everyone racing there this weekend! I'm not racing, but I've ridden the course a few times and it's one of the better ones I've ridden. A little touchy getting to White Lake Rd but once you're on it's fun! Stay warm and have a blast!

this is my first tri too. i am nervous and excited. i have ridden the bike course twice and it is definitely a hilly ride (at least for me). i am 42, female, 5'4" and have a trek5200 blue bike and will have a sleeveless wetsuit (stupid but i rented it). i would really like to meet others around s.e. michigan who enjoy this. looking forward to it.

Good luck Molly on your first event! I know the feeling of nervous excitement...I just did my first tri back in June and loved every second of it! I've done five since and each of them were a blast! Good call on the wetsuit, it's gonna be a little chilly out there. Good luck and have fun!

I have BT.com t-shirt. I'll wear it in the morning unless it's cold enough for a sweatshirt.

All this talk of hills and rollers... how hilly? Can anyone with knowledge of the course compare it to the hills at Kensington Metropark in Milford? I ride there and at Island Lake regularly.

thanks,
- tom

I love riding Kensington and the hills on this course won't compete with that. There are definitely some nice ones on this course, but nothing as steep or as long as some of the one out there.

I remember doing the Carl's Family tri this past summer and that course took everything out of me before getting to the run! I've ridden it once a week since then. Love that course.

Thanks for the hill comparisons! Do you do the Great Pumpkin or Spooky Sprint Du that 3D does at Kensington? I did it last year (Spooky Sprint) and may do it again this year. You hit just about every hill in Kensington on the bike. It's in October this year.
