Set Up Events

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 58m 31s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = W25-29
Age Group Rank = 10/22
Event warmup:

Ate bagel with Josh, warmed up in the water for a few minutes-- just to get a feel for it
Swim
  • 19m 44s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was actually very nice. It would have been nice to know that it would be wetsuit legal beforehand (most people didn't think it would be so no one had their wetsuits except a few people. Some grass and algae in the water, but it was fairly clear with no chop.
What would you do differently?:

NAVIGATION!! Got lost on the way to the first buey and I think I swam around 1000m instead of 750m. I was one of the last ones around the first bouey but made up a lot of places to the second one. Then I kept zigzagging to the last one, so I added a lot of distance. Swim pace was pretty good, and I felt steady, although I ended up more tired than I should have, I think.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

The run from the beach to the bike transition included a bunch of stairs going up a hill that ended up making the transition a difficult one.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!! My transition was ranked 1st in my age group and there was only one other person under 2 minutes. Although it felt slow going through it (with the long run up to the transition area) in comparison to others it ended up being a good performance. Would like to eventually be able to have my shoes on my bike and do a moving bike mount.
Bike
  • 1h 05m 37s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 15.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was great- I passed a lot of people in my age group and managed to gain a lot of time on people who were wasting the downhills. I got up to 42 mph on one of the hills, which was a blast, but the last hill was definitely a killer! Also, a lot of the course looked flat when you were biking it, but if you could manage 12/13 mph on it, you were blasting past people.
What would you do differently?:

Practice on hills more- was unprepared for the length and intensity of the hills. But overall, I am very pleased with the bike leg.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Transition was good- I got in front of a girl in my age group through transition, and I think I got quite a bit of time on her. Our bike rack was way on the other side of transition though, so it took a long time to get there.
What would you do differently?:

I missed my bike rack - I turned in one rack too early, and spent some time looking for my stuff. I ended up just dropping my bike on the rack where I was and ducking under to get my run stuff. But it still ended up being a fast transition (3rd in my age group), and I had no problems with my socks/shoes or anything.
Run
  • 30m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Rough course!
What would you do differently?:

Everything! This was a very disappointing run for me - I ended up with just about everything cramping, from my calves and achilles to my sides. Going into the run, I was keeping up with the girl I passed in transition, but I just couldn't keep it up - I couldn't get into a groove, and I couldn't keep my legs from cramping, so I ended up getting passed by 4 people in my age group on the last half of the run, which was very demoralizing, especially after such a great bike leg. But you can't have good run days every day, I guess. Will be better prepared for the hills next time!

Great race report and a very nice race!

Sounds like you really crushed the bike and it was such a hard course.

Congratulations again!!!
