Subject: RE: What makes a clydesdale/athena?
Love the thread and the whole forum. I am a 25 year old Athena that just got into triathlon this past year. But I do happen to qualify as a semi-expert on marine mammals, since I majored in marine biology in undergrad. Orca's also known as Killer Whales are dolphins not whales. They belong to the Delphinidae family along with other dolphins like bottlenose or pacific-whitesided dolphins. The name Killer whale actually is rooted in the fact they hunt in packs and are know to hunt and kill large whales. Initially they were referred to as "whale killers" which later became Killer Whales. They are defiantly highly intelligent and social animals. Just thought I would put my two cents in.

You just made a lot of people's day and probably sold 10 more Orca Wetsuits.

I never knew that about the Orca, and since I swim in an ORCA wetsuit, I'll probably never forget it now -- "whale killer", hunting in packs, dolphin-like intelligence... very cool!

Okay, I've got the book on hold at the library. Looks wonderful

So I knew I was slow and fat, but I didn't know I was a greek goddess. I'm feeling better about myself already.

My favorite part about being an Athena is wearing a black wetsuit with ORCA in big letters on the front... I laugh everytime I train out at the lake in front of other people at the looks I get.

If men are Clydes then women should be Bonnies.

That is hysterical, and being the type of person I am I would wear the ORCA brand just for effect. I just ordered a picture of myself coming out of the swim wave, and there really should be either ORCA (or HIPPO) on my suit, not 2XU- which sounds like a kitchy plus sized clothing store.

Hey, you can always Photoshop it later, right?

I think Team Hippo wetsuits for Clydes/Athenas (or Bonnies, I like that!) would be a great idea. Do you think there are enough of us out there who are in-your-face enough to wear them? I know I would!

We used to (and in some places, still are) called "Fillies" or just plain female clydes. If they'd used "Bonnies", that might have been better then Fillies.-but what the heck is a "Bonnie"?
