Expert  997    Littleton, CO |  Subject: Good Bike Deal? Help me decide..FELT S25I solicited on Craigslist for someone to sell me their tri bike. This guy wrote back and I am going to try this bike for fit tonight. He is asking $1500 for it. Or I can buy it without the HED3 wheels for less. Is this bike a good deal? Would you buy it if it was a good fit?

In the year 2004 the Ultegra group was still 9 speed. Before you buy, clean the bike and check the frame for small cracks. These cracks can be very hard to spot, so look carefully! P.S. He also said he's religious about the maintenance and has done all of it himself and frequently. I agree, those wheels are sexy! I think I would be a better woman if I had those wheels! |

If so, than he missed quite a bit... you need a 10 speed RD, 10 Speed shifters, and a 10 speed chain. There is nothing wrong with a 9 speed drivetrain. It's just that a 10 speed drivetrain offers faster, smoother shifting along with an extra gear. Even if he says he maintained it well, you should still check the frame for cracks. Better yet, take it to your LBS for an inspection. |

I checked prices and they are selling for about $900-1200 for the bike and the wheels are about $700 for the set. Not a bad deal, especially with the wheels. It only has 650cc's so I think that's why he's not going to try to sell them separately. I had professional bike fit done a month ago and I am trying to make sense of those measurements in comparison to the geometry specs for this bike. |

Just one size too big! We tried and tried, replaced the stem, lowered the seat, but just couldn't make it happen. It about made me cry! |
