Is anybody else doing this one?

I'm trying to find out if it'll be wetsuit legal. They're supposed to be opening the damn to lower the temp of 'LadyBird' lake, but the question is will it be enough.

I'm in... I am wondering the same thing about wetsuits, this is what it says on the frontpage of the Austin Triathlon website:

Water Conditions
Despite all the rain this year, LadyBird Lake is in great shape. The City of Austin has said that is is safe for swimming. Current water temperature is 82 degrees, but that temperature is expect to be 4 to 8 degrees cooler on race day when LCRA opens the dams to flush debris and raise the level of the lake by 1 ft for the race. We expect that the event will be wetsuit legal.

So from that I am gonna guess that it will be... gee I sure hope so since I just bought a new wetsuit Anyhow it looks like it is gonna be a good race... the course is similar to CAPTEX. Hope to see you there.

Whether it's legal or not, it might be a bit warm if you have a full suit.

Probably, but I'll take the heat in order to use the wetsuit.

Feel free to do so. I tried it once and between the warm (mid-70 degree) water and the sun beating down on my back (it was over 90 degrees and sunny at the swim start), I overheated about 800 meters into an oly swim and had to scale the pace back a bit. I was actually slower because of the suit.

I have a sleeveless now and will probably use it a the Aus Tri if they are legal. I can use all of the buoyancy and drag reduction I can get!

I would love to have a sleeveless. I've been doing mile+ swims in Boerne lake every weekend and it's been bearable.

I'm in for this one, too.  Looking forward to my second oly....a little worried about the heat on the run, though.  I've already put my order in for overcast skies.

Be careful what you ask for. This race is basically a replacement for the CapTexTri which was rained out.

I said overcast, not raining!  I've been watching the forecast pretty closely.....so far so good. Just a 40% chance of scatter showers and not too hot. We'll see...

I thought I read somewhere that they capped the race at 800 (probably trying to keep a first year race manageable), but I can't seem to find it stated anywhere. I know they had 200 slots left about a month ago, and it looks like they are still accepting registration on Sunday.

They have 1,500 spots and when I was in Jack & Adams Thursday they said the had under 100 spots left. I hope the weather holds out.

Has anyone heard anything about wetsuits yet? Are you going to wear one if it's legal?

Good luck tomorrow.

Just wondering how everyone did...I had a great race. I'm sitting here looking at the rain coming down and am very thankful for the great weather we had this morning.

I thoroughly enjoyed the race. I also came to the realizations that:

1. It's very important to check equipment before the race (I had a brake rubbing the whole time, and not just lightly...)
2. I need to train harder

I was thrilled with the weather. It could not have been better!

Sanford,

I had a great time. I finished in 3:27, slow as hell, but finished! I was the guy that threw up while I crossed the finish line holding my 19 month old son. I'll tell you what, that's a great way to clear the finish line!!!

Next year, under 3 hours!

Nothing like finishing in style Harry!

Dave, once again, thanks for the offer to help out.

Despite my poor performance(I was dead tired before the race even started), I thought it was a great event. I'm really looking forward to the Longhorn. Jack and Adams give you your money's worth.

My wife beat me again. This is getting embarrassing...
