Total Time = 3h 00m 27s
Overall Rank = 395/562
Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 18/31
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30, breakfast at the hotel, arrived at the race site around 6:35.
Event warmup:

The usual hanging around talking with people before the race.
Swim
  • 33m 30s
  • 1440 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

This is an improvement over last year, so I'm satisfied. Still not good, but better. I hung with the pack for a while but it got tight in some areas and I was getting hit a lot so I backed off a little to make some space for myself. I would have been about 30 seconds faster but I had to stop to pee (I just can't do it while I'm moving!).
What would you do differently?:

Be faster ;)
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

It's a long run to transition and then I was all the way at the other end of the entrance so I had an even longer run! I tried to be quick and I am ok with this time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 16m 51s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm happy with this time. I went hard for the first 20 miles and then backed it off for the last 5 to try and get my heart rate down before the run. This is about as easy a course as you can find. Nice and flat and fast!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

I was a little slow in this transition because as soon as I got off the bike I could feel the heat. As I was making the switch I heard someone yelling "comeon!" and it vaguely sounded like Rob, but I thought "nah, it's not him." Of course it was. I guess I wasn't moving fast enough ;).
What would you do differently?:

Move a little faster
Run
  • 1h 05m 3s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

The run can be summed up in one word: UGH. It was sooo HOT!! I couldn't keep my HR under control and I never felt like I drank enough water at the aid stations. It just sucked! But I made it back in one piece and still beat last year's time, so I'm ok with it.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what I could have done here. Maybe carry some additional water?
Post race
Warm down:

This should be called the "cool down" description. There wasn't much water to speak of at the finish line, but I got a wet cloth and then Kelly squeezed another one over my head and that felt great! It took me a while to feel better after the finish. I drank a cold Coke and I think that was the greatest drink I have ever had. Hung out under the BT tent and ate some food, then took off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat. But I can honestly say I gave this race my all. I almost went sub 3, but it's ok that I didn't. I made improvement in all 3 sports from last year so I'm happy.

Event comments:

I loved everything about this race except the lack of beverages at the finish this year. Nice tee shirt, water bottle, plenty of aid stations, decent post-race food (at least there was some left, unlike Mooseman...). I will be back.

Polly you did awesome...congrats on improving on everything this year with tough hot/humid conditions.

Love that bike split

We need to keep improving on our swimming as 2.4 miles is a lot longer....next July will be interesting! Glad to see your hard work swimming paying off in races.

That's pretty impressive improving all three splits when it was a long swim and a MUCH hotter run.  Great job out there.

Hey Poll...awesome job!...you are SPEEDY on the bike!!...i guess it's a good thing we decided to race afterall...versus hanging out as spectators on top of the hill...although during the run i was wishing we were just watching! Thanks again for lending me your race belt...you saved my life!! Dinner was fun, can't wait to see you guys again. We'll have to plan something since Lake T is no more!!
