Sunny
Total Time = 1h 31m 2s
Overall Rank = 115/399
Age Group = M 45-49
Age Group Rank = 18/58
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45am, had a pb sandwich and a cup of coffee.
Drank a gatorade on the way to the race site.
Event warmup:

I rode for about 10 minutes and ran a little, they had everyone out of the water so there was no way to warmup on the swim.
Swim
  • 14m 58s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not my best swim, I did not sight well and was off course a little on the way out to the turn, the sun was in my eye's on the way back, so I was a little off course as well.
What would you do differently?:

I really should have paid more attention to the way the course was laid out and use my other goggles.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

I felt like I had a pretty good transition. I ran all the way in, looked to see if I could find Alex, I knew he would be ahead of me after the swim.
Bike
  • 49m 33s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 22.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I actually had a pretty good bike, I was expecting more hill so maybe that was it. There was a pretty good hill at mile 7 or so that kinda tired me, but the rest I thought I did OK. I passed a bunch of people on the uphills and only got passed a few times. Passed Alex with about 3 miles to go so I knew i had to hammer the rest of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more?
Nah!
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Run
  • 23m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad run, again I was expecting more hills. I heard Alex behind me at the start, he caught up and ran right off my shoulder for the last 2 miles. I tried slowing down to let him pass me, he would not bite.
Probably one of my best efforts on the mental side, I was sure he would outkick me in the end but I managed to hold him off by 2 seconds.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice cold towels were great!
Food was good, ate quick and then I had to get back on the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Speed.

Event comments:

I would do this race again, not sure I would drive all that way but if we were up there for the weekend I'd do it.

Holy crap.  So let me get this straight....  1:49/100y, 22.57 mph, and 7:30's/mile...and that was 18/58?  Those times are flat out aS.S kicking.  What the heck did the other 17 guys do?  45-49 looks just as evil as the 35-39 and 40-44.

You're one heck of an athlete Nick!  Way to go!

I think we need to check you bike for illegal equipment (motor). How does one ride that fast with like 2 rides under their belt lately!!! Great Job!! You killed it.
