Overall Rank = 435/562

Age Group Rank = 28/40
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5 - had a bowl of cerial, berries and COFFEE. Woke up jockstrapping son Nick at 5:50 - on the road at 6. My rear tire was flat but for some strange reason I really wasn't stressing about it. I knew it would get resolved
Event warmup:

hah! handing off bike to the "BT Pit Crew (Max, Joe and Scott)" and setting up transition. I keep forgetting it takes longer than 1 hour to get to race site.
Swim
  • 33m 51s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, I know swimming is my weak link and I accept it. After a rough start I settled into a good rhythm. At one point I was stuck between two breast strokers and had a hard time passing them without getting kicked in the ribs. I only veered off course once!
Transition 1
  • 03m 51s
Comments:

Took my time to make sure I didn't forget anything (helmut, suck on Gu, glasses, bike shoes go!)
Bike
  • 1h 23m 33s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 17.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I went out fast and enjoyed passing a bunch of 30-year old women who passed me on the swim. I was averaging over 19 mph on the first half of the coursw After around mile 20 I started to fade a bit.I was OK with that, since I knew what I was doing was "against the rules" -- but it was so much fun!
What would you do differently?:

nothing - other than spend more time bike training
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

My hamstrings were getting tight on the bike. At the dismount, I had to pause a minute before swining my leg over the bike to make sure I didn't fall over.
Run
  • 1h 01m 43s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

I drank 20 oz water and 16 oz accelerade on bike. I have found that if I drink too much on the bike, I get cramps on the run...
So, I was hot going into the run. I hobbled onto the run course when I hear a familiar voice behind me - it was Joe! We chatted a bit, and then I continued ahead, saw Laura, who was walking, and not feeling very well after getting sick on the bike. Kept running. Splits for the first 3 miles were in the 9:20 range. Then I started to lose steam. I had to stop and walk a couple of times up hills. It was hot and humid, none of the water I was pouring over my head at the water stops was evaporating, so I was a wet, sloshing beast. I don't run well in the heat, but I did the best I could.
Post race
Warm down:

Glory tothe race gods! There were face cloths in ice and water at the finish line! Felt mighty nice! I stretched a bit and gavve my son, Nick, a slimey hug. Had some BBQ stuff and hung with fellow BTers under the tent.

Event comments:

this race is a lot of fun with BT friends. I was hoping to go sub-3 hr - last year my time was 3:02. My swim and bike times this year was alomst the same as last year's , but I knew that I wouldn't beat last year's 58:30 run time. Given the lack of training this year, I'm pleased with my performance. I'll be back next year.

Nice job Joanne!  We are within a few minutes of each other.  And Kathy, too.

Your run is really good.  And Joe harrassed you, too?  It must be shortly before I caught up with him and Laura.

Nice seeing oyu and Nick!!
