Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

Me and a couple friends are doing this one. It'll be my first half mary and longest run-only race EVER! I've never actually run 13 miles before so it should be interesting.

Anybody want to get a pool going on which mile I bonk? I'll stay out of it.

Good luck!!  This was my very first 1/2 marathon.  I did is in 1:57 in 2004... that's when I cared about running, LOL!

This is a good race to get in a decent fast run.  It's up and down LakeShoreDrive and then west and back east on Garfield Blvd.

The only problem is mr2tony is parking.  You may want to get there early, because you have to park on Garfield Blvd itself or the side streets, and lots of peeps who up early.  I usually have to park far away and have to walk a mile or so.  Just so you know, don't wait until the last minute to go.

but it's fun, and they are getting better and better with the race.  The post food and tents are kind of fun.  I've always enjoyed this race but I am not going this year

Good luck!!, and you won't bonk!!, so I'm not betting, LOL!

Thanks. I don't drive in the city. Heck I don't even have a car in Chicago! I'll be either biking down or cabbing it most of the way then walking the rest. I live downtown so it's not too far.

well the 2:40 Pace group leader is my friend so if you see him tell him hi.

2:30 pace group leader is my ex runner partner and I am upset she so easily left me so tell her nothing. except maybe trip her if she passes you. .

I'll be there!  Was deciding between this and the Crystal Lake half mary, and figured it would be easier to bring in a possible PR on this course rather than the hills up north.

And plus - I've now done this race 3 years running (heh), why break the streak?

You'll be fine!  No bonking at all for you, I'm sure.  13.1 miles is just another long run.

I bonked at 12 last year.  I started to fade and it sucked having EVERYONE pass me at the end and there is nothing I could do about it. I think the only nutrition I had before the race was a PBJ, before I left Algonquin.  I have learned a lot about nutrition this year.

Bring a gel or 2 and you will do fine.

I am going to drink a bottle of perpetuem and a gatorade before the race. And bring a gel or two just in case.

This is a fun race.

Good luck.

So how did the race go?  Bonk at mile 12?  Weather was nice enough.

I ran the first 5.5 miles with a friend at a slower pace than norm and took gels every three miles.  Energy level was pretty good and ran the last 5 at a minute faster pace than forst several.  Of course, the start was so crowded, I will be surprised if anyone had a good 1st mile time.

Overall, pretty good race.  Only regret is my knees.

Yeah it went OK. RR is up. Way too slow on the front half. I was shooting for a 46-48 minute 10K and ended up running a 53:49 10K. By far the slowest 10K of my life, so I tried to pick it up on the second half without causing a meltdown at mile 12 and ended up being way too conservative. Ended at 1:47:00 ... not bad but not good.

Ha- I am so slow I don't really care about division/sex rank!  Although, I am curious about the distance.  My Polar 200sd gave a total distance of 13.6 miles.  Anyone else?

Wow that is good for a footpod. Most my halves with my polar came to like 14.3.

also keep in mind .5 easily be errors and not running the tangents perfectly.

that is 3.8% error or 96.2% accurate. Is';t the 200sd suppose to be around 97% accurate. That plus not running tangents perfects and your right on the money.

I didn't run this one with a SDM, but I know that race courses are always measured by the shortest possible route.... so if you took enough wide turns, or went from one side of the road to the other during water stops, etc, I don't think it would be improbable to add a half mile to your total distance.
