How far is Luray from the site?

Not close enough for race day, I wouldn't think. I've never done it, but it's probably well over an hour by car. It's 75 miles as the crow flies and there's no good direct route.

It's about an hour and a half for me, and I'm just driving down tomorrow morning, since the race doesn't start til 10, I wouldn't have to get up obscenely early either. But I'm also not hard core and am not planning to do a serious warm-up or anything. It's just a sprint, and I am not awesome enough that I don't want to tire myself out beforehand.

WTF?!?!? It's OCTOBER!!!! Is anyone besides me getting really sick of 85-90 degree weather??? I like fall, and this blows...

In a word? Yes. I'm ready for sweaters, crisp air, fall colors, etc.

Good luck to everyone! Don't let the Giant Acorn or the mutant fish get you!

Mark

I'm always forgetting something! Those squirrels have webbed feet and swim fast. And they're very mischievous: I hear they swim ahead of each wave and try to get you to go around the course the wrong way.

I live in Luray, and did the drive a few weeks ago. 1.5 hours away. Where are you getting your directions from? I used mapquest, and they were WRONG about a turn, which added 1 hour to my drive.

Mapquest - it's mostly highway driving for me, though - taking 95 down and then some stuff from there. I have the map that the site provides. Maybe I'll run directions through yahoo too and see if there are any discrepancies. I don't have time to go get an Atlas or anything tonight (babysitting after work).

Yeah, I thought it was a fun little course, esp. for newbies like myself I will highly consider doing it again next year and kicking some serious a$$, once I've gotten awesome from winter training

Yeah, it was my first and I beat my personal goal by over 5 minutes so I'm excited. I think it turned out to be a perfect race to start with. Looking forward to next season!

We could not have asked for nicer weather.  This was my second and I will definetly sign up next year.
