Absolutely spend the money for Ft Wilderness. I made that mistake last year. I live in Orlando and wanted to save some money. Absolutely spend the money, get to the start on time, without all the hassle.

The Disney employees are fabulous and can direct traffic like nobody's business, but the Florida Highway Patrol are morons and directed me wrong, even though I and both my parent, each of us former castmembers, assured him he was directing me the wrong way. I made it, but by the skin of my teeth, not prepared and sick to my stomach that I was going to miss my wave.

I won't make that mistake this year.

did anyone camp??  My husband thinks we should camp.  Yeah, in a tent.  On an air mattress.

I can't see renting a cabin...we are splurging on a room at another race in April.   Two big expenses in two months aren't feasible.    but however if the room in April doesnt work out, I could get a cabin...

If we room at the Pop Century whatever resorts, will the buses be running that early n the morning??  Or will we all have to drive from resort to start???

We stayed at home this year for the 70.3 and made it with no issues.  We parked in the Magic Kingdom and took the bus over to the race site.  Very easy, no issues.  We rode our bikes back to the truck after the race, which was kinda fun fighting the tourist traffic!!

Lucy, I'm actually considering camping for this one as well.  Does anyone know of any good campsites close by?

uh, Fort Wilderness is one big campground.  They have group camping (where we have stayed with Cub Scouts), individual tent camping, RV hookups, and cabins for rent (in the 250/night area or so).  The race is going to start in and end in the campground.

check out the disney websites.

Cool.  Camping at the starting line would certainly be an advantage.

trust me try to stay on diney property. the best is to get fort wilderness and reserve a golf cat you will be the most popular person!! fort wilderness or even wilderness lodge. some other resorts are closer but stay on property for the full disney experience. the cabins will sleep 5 or 6 triathletes at 300 bucks or so well worth it. They also have a full kitchen!!

Lucy,

If it is in the budget, I would say yes. Having traveled to many marathons and triathlons and done it both ways, I'm a BIG advocate of staying as close to the Start/Finish as possible. Hollywood and I stayed on Disney Property in May, but not Ft. Wilderness. Since this is not a Disney sanctioned event, (like the Marathon Weekend) the Disney transport is not running early enough to take you over. We shared a cab to the Magic Kingdom for the buses and it only cost us $5. We did have to walk through some landscaping as the driver had to drop us off on the main road in front of the parking lot. It wasn't a big deal and we rode our bikes back afterwards. We're planning on doing the same again this year.
