Pre-race routine:

I went to the course the day before and drove the bike route a couple of times in my car. After seeing where everything was, I knew I wanted to get there early, and thank goodness I did. The pre-race check-in was very dis-organized and because of that the race started 30-45 minutes late.
Event warmup:

I think I ate enough in the morning ( go up at 4am to eat ), but I definitely drank too much liquid in the morning, as I became (too) familiar with the port-a-johns.
Swim
  • 10m 19s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was not as bad as I thought, due to the low/mid tide the water was never more than 4 feet deep or so. Walked occasionally, mostly to get into clear waters. Also not sure of the length since the race documentation was unclear and had conflicting information about the swim length.

I was pretty happy in hindsight to be in the first wave since, due to the shallow water and mucky bottom the later waves were swimming through very dirty water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, as this was my first triathlon, I was mostly just trying to get through the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Not a good time at all, the transition area was gravel and sand so my feet got pretty dirty. I brought a basin with water to clean my feet, however it had a leak, thus rendering it useless. Because of this I had to spend extra time cleaning the dirt off my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Leak check the basin next time
Bike
  • 28m 17s
  • 11 miles
  • 23.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Very happy with my bike segment. I didn't get passed much at all ( although that would change on the run ) and I didn't feel as if I was overly taxed during the bike segment.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This was fairly quick, I just had to switch shoes and put on a shirt with my race number. The race results don't include any times for this.
Run
  • 20m 18s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

This went as well as can be expected, my legs were a little tight coming out of the bike, but loosened up after 1 mile. I think everyone I passed on the bike, passed me back on the run. Also there was one "super guy" who passed me in the last 1/4 mile and said, "This run is really easy". Gee, Thanks
What would you do differently?:

Would have gone harder at the last 1/2 mile, I was too focused on not having to walk any of it.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a little and hung out for the race results.

Experience

Event comments:

Overall the race was a success and I was vary happy with my results. The race itself was not very organized as the check-in process was poorly designed.
