I've been mountain biking for years, and have always wanted to do a tri. But I never had the follow through to do it. But, I found the perfect event, an off-road triathlon. The East Coast Xterra Triathlon is happening in Richmond next summer. I'm going to be there. I'm not sure how, but I will be get there.

Hi!

I bet the mountains are at their peak with the leaves on the trees changing color. It's probably absolutely beautiful.

Welcome to BT. You are entering a new arena. It's wonderful. Before you know it your mountain bike will be collecting dust and you will be deep in the triathlon training.

You've got plenty of time to train for next Summer's race. Good luck.

Greetings and the best of luck with your Triathlons.

Question! Where are you in NC or the Mountains?
I taught over in the States for 2 Years and was placed in Charlotte NC.
Spent a great deal of time in the Mountains, Biking, Skiing and Walking etc. Lovely place, would like to go back someday.

We're just outside of Asheville, NC. Charlotte is a great town too. We lived there for 2.5 years before moving here. The mountains here are only about 6000 feet high, but It's got to be one of the most beautiful spots in the Southeast, Especially right now with all the leaves. It is great for trail-running.

Yes cool. Been to Asheville many times on the old parkway. Lovely time of the year to be there, with the trees changing etc. I used to Mountain bike a great deal near to Bryson City. I think that's the name of it.
Enjoy!

Welcome Walker!

You will find this sport addictive and meet some of the best people you have ever met. I am a member of the Triad Tri Team in Greensboro and we had a speaker last week from the Xterra series. Her name is Kylie Kavanaugh and she did a great job explaining the differences between on road tri's and off road tri's. Typically they are harder as it is difficult to get a steady cadence in running and biking in the off road races. However, after my first year I can tell you Richmond is a very achievable goal. Kylie actually trains on weekends in the Boone area. Welcome to the sport and let me know if I or some of the other team members can help out.

I work at a conference center right near little river road. Dupont State Forest is great. I missed the marathon. I was riding in another part of the forest, but I heard that it was a great event. It is a brutal event.

Thanks everyone for all of the notes. I am very excited about training for this race. It will be awesome!!!

Good luck on your tri. You're going to have a blast training. With all those hills around you'll be going up and down regularly you're gonna be ready for the Xterra race.

Welcome Walker. I love Hendersonville, tried to move there several years ago. Currently my wife and I live in Spartanburg, SC. Most of my NC trips are to Wesser these days (NOC) trying to improve my kayaking. My wife and I are starting a fitness consulting firm early 2005; drop me a line anytime (no this is not a shameless plug) and we can discuss training plans.
