Tri Peachtree City
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 51m 12s
Overall Rank = 754/816
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 13/15
Pre-race routine:

Spent the night at a hotel. Woke up at 5am, ate a granola bar and headed out to the park.
Event warmup:

Could not get in the water early, so basically stretched and walked around.
Swim
  • 13m 57s
  • 528 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

We entered two by two. Two people every two seconds. Lots of alge and mud in the lake, water temp was comfortable, and with the entry to the lake not a lot of getting kicked in the head. Did about half crawl, half breast stroke. Showers when we exited the water. That was nice.
What would you do differently?:

Need to improve on staying with the crawl stroke the whole way.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

I was slow today. Lots of grass on feet, tried to get off before getting into shoes. Grass does not wash off as easily as sand. Need to work on running with the bike out of transition.
Bike
  • 46m 51s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 16.91 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt very slow on the bike to start. After the turnaround, I felt much better and went a lot faster. This time I remembered to put the computer on the bike, but it helps if you turn it on and then put it on the right setting.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on my cadence. I am slow and rely on power too much.
Transition 2
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

I felt I was doing better with this transition. The bike racks were set up in really long rows, so you had to go completely from one end to the other just to get around them to get to the run start which was off to the side.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn to go without sock for the run. Feet were still so wet it was hard to get the socks on.
Run
  • 43m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

I went faster than I thought. Felt really slow and sluggish at the beginning, but my time is pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start running. Don't think I can get any faster with walking.
Post race
Warm down:

Water handed to you as you crossed the finish line. Pizza, bagels, apples, bananas. Wandered into the library, could not resist being a librarian.

Course: On a golf cart path. Beautiful scenery, out and back with a loop. Problem with coming in near the end, the racers who had finished were walking their bikes on the bath as they headed out. That was a little fustrating. Water at the one mile and a bit before the two mile. Lots of volunteers to encorage you and keep you on course. The course was well marked in addition to the volunteers.

If I remember correctly, you just started doing tri this year.  Congrats on finishing the PTC-Tri!

Running without socks does help on these short races.  Something I've found that helps is putting a little powder in your shoes when you set up transition.

Hope your friend has a speedy recovery!

Great finishing race to a great first season.  You beat your My First Tri time on a longer course (longer swim for sure and I think the run on MyFristTri was short).

Congrats on a great race! This was your 3rd race, right? With training through the winter...I see good things for you next season!

Um, did you say you went to the LIBRARY after the race?  You crack me up Ms. Librarian!  LOL!

I think you should try running!  You are right,  you walk pretty darn fast and it would be tough to beat that time!  Great bike split!  Swimming in mud and algae doesn't sound all that fun, good thing they had those showers!  Nice work Kendra!

The finish line was right in front of the library so it was really easy to walk in and check it out. You should have seen me in Washington D.C. at the Library of Congress. I was like a kid in a candy store.
