Sunny
Total Time = 3h 07m 26s
Overall Rank = 7/23
Age Group = Super Clydesdal
Age Group Rank = 7/23
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:50am. Picked up Rob (Omega) at his hotel. Felt good. Ate a banana, cliff bar, and Gel. Drank some gatorade too.
Event warmup:

Swam for 5min prior to swim. No need to really warm up besides stretching.
Swim
  • 32m 30s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam at a slower pace to keep my HR down and to conserve energy for bike/run. A lot of people complained about the swim, but I liked it a lot. I started out in front and kept that pace and finished 3rd.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster like I am capable of.
Transition 1
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

T1 was slower because we had to pack all of the gear into the bag after the swim so that the bag could be delivered to T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I thought it was a good T1 even with the slower time for packing the bag
Bike
  • 1h 19m 9s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on bike. Hydration was great. Felt I used my gearing great
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the straight aways in a big gear.
Transition 2
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

T2 was large and long. Took bike shoes off and ran in socks to my spot. My T2 was at the very end. It was running down a narrow aisle, so that took a little speed off---waiting behind some people
What would you do differently?:

Run faster in T2 to get my legs loosened up before heading out to the main course
Run
  • 1h 08m 23s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is still the weakest point. The hill sucked. It slowed me down. I again, picked up the pace for the last 1/2 mile. I only walked (besides the hill) during water stations. I had bad gas and cramped up, but I let 'er go and felt fine. Next year I am running the hill, fuck this walking up it shit!
What would you do differently?:

Skip a few water stations. I might have drank too much because I was pissing clear 4 hours after the race!!! I will avg sub 10min miles next time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for 20min, stetching out the calves.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training limited my peformance and so did that damn hill!

Event comments:

I will do this again. Next time, my buddy will be running it with me!

Good job on the race - man though you made me laugh with your gas comments - finally someone who admits to being wind (gas) powered! I know you will do even better next year!

Great job, Ryan--and snazzy single-digit finish in the S-Clydes. You're an amazing athlete. I was watching the swim waves and then exit from T1 and I was just really impressed with everyone.
