Overall Rank = 102/209

Age Group Rank = 20/23
Pre-race routine:

Did the usual bagel and PB before leaving home. Arrived at 730 with plenty of time to set up transition area. I also had a Catapult drink before the race.
Event warmup:

I stretched for about 10 minutes and ran for a couple of minutes to get loosened up. This was done after the womens start.
Swim
  • 27m 6s
  • 875 yards
  • 03m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first true test in the water. I was very nervous today! The Blue Water Tri two weeks ago was really not an accurate test because of the water levels and having to walk a portion of the swim. It was pretty windy this morning and there was a slight chop on the water. I told myself to start slow and go at my own pace. That was Ok until the 300m mark when the swimmer in front of me kicked me in the head and I lost my googles. That disrupted everything. Not only did I lose my rhythm but I was exhausted and out of breath. I called the lifeguard over and rested for 45 seconds. After that I was OK and continued on.
What would you do differently?:

Calm down
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

I was pretty tired after the swim so I took my time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 54m 6s
  • 16.4 miles
  • 18.19 mile/hr
Comments:

It took me almost a lap to get into a good pace on the bike. I was still pretty tired from the swim. I did enjoy the ride overall. The course seemed a little long as my computer read 16.4 vs. 15 mile. Other people had the same distance so I guess mine was OK. There was a dedicated lane which made it nice.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Everything went well. My family was there cheering me on so that it fun. Coming out of the T2 my 5 year old ran next to me for 20 yards or so. She had a blast doing that. Little did I know I would see her soon. See later!
Run
  • 40m 14s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 11m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I am not a fan of the trail run. No more for me. There are too many things to look for. It seemed as if the run was longer than advertised. I stopped at the two aid stations and walked for a minute. The best part about the run was having my daughter cross the finish line with me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and hung out with the family. Had a sandwich and some accelerade and enjoyed the moment.

Nice!  My grandson is five and he loves races!  I can't wait for the end of the month for him to get to go to his first tri with me.

It sounds like the swim was a tough one, but you made it through, great effort.  Good job!

Good job on the bike! Sorry that the swim was such a disappointment. That was cool that your daughter got to run with you!
