Is there a website or service to use that will let you setup a vacation around a race? Say I wanted to take a vacation around the Tour of Georgia, etc. A traditional travel agent would work, but I'm looking for something a bit more sport specific. Ideas?

I haven't heard of one other than for very specific races/events like the TdF, and some IM and HIM, and some overseas Mary's.

Have you been talking with my husband? He is now very interested in picking races for me to do in locations he wants to visit. For Christmas he wants to give me a bike box so we can travel to races.

I have the opposite problem, Kathy.  My wife specifically does not want our vacations revolving around my races! (I did manage to talk her into an exception for Pumpkinman in Vegas next month, though...)

Why do you need a service, or a travel agent for that matter? Book the trip yourself, plenty of internet resources.

Mostly because I am lazy, forgetful, and generally bad at these things. Having a one stop shop would work well. Tho, I have considered the 'do-it-myself' option, and may yet go that route.

I have no idea if such an organization exists, but I would check the ads in the back of magazines like in Triathlete, Bicycling, or Runner's World (even though the former 2 are owned by the same company.) I've seen ads in there for bike touring vacations and that kind of stuff; might be a place to start.

Former pro triathlete Ken Glah runs Endurance Sports Travel. He specializes in travel for long distance triathlons, but if he doesn't handle marathons or cycling he could probably point you to someone who does.

my hubby said the same thing, because i'll want to rest and ruin vacation. but i think i convinced him to start the vacation after my race and just get there a day or two early.

i am looking at HIM in probably WI, IA or IN for next year.

we have kiddos too, so i have to keep that in mind.
