Subject: Fun 10Ks in the next few months?
I'm interested in signing up for a 10K sometime in the next few months, probably ideally mid-October or later to give me time to continue to ramp my distance gradually. Does anyone have any suggestions of good/fun races? I'm on the west side of the Twin Cities, and closer is better but not the ultimate decision-maker.

I don't know of any off-hand.  The only 10k I've run in the cities is the Get in Gear, which is in the Spring.  I always use active.com and raceberryjam.com to look for races, though, if that helps.

One of the best ones should be very near you. Autumn Woods 10k and 5k are at Elm Creek park. It is usually the weekend after TCM.

You can also look for events at www.midwestevents.com  They have events listed for tri's and du's, running and just about everything else.

I'd second the suggestion for Autumn Woods. It's the 13th of October this year. The only downside of it for me is that the 10k is mostly on paved trails (as compared to the 5K which is mostly dirt trails and friendlier to my body!)  You can register at www.threeriversparks.org.

If you want it to feel like a major event, you could always do the 10K associated with the Twin Cities Marathon. But with that kind of energy comes parking problems, crows, etc.

Based on the recommendations for Autumn Woods on this thread, I just may do it myself.

Are you sure there is a 10K with Twin Cities?  I know there is a 10 mile, but that is a lottery only deal.

There is a 10K on October 20th, Nerstrand Big Woods. They have a 5K, 10K, and half-marathon. It is a HUGE race and lots of fun! The half is an all trail run which I've heard is insanely difficult, but the 5K and 10K are on a gravel road and then a trail in the woods.
