Wisconsin Triathlon Series
38F / 3C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 33m 1s
Overall Rank = 137/735
Age Group = Male 25-29
Age Group Rank = 24/65
Pre-race routine:

Alarm went off at 4:45, eventually woke up at about 5:10. Ate a Clif bar and went over all the gear as the wife got ready. Loaded everything in the car and tried to deal with the fact that the thermometer in the truck was reading 36 degrees. Got in and drove to the race site. Set up my transition area which luckily was on the end because I got there early enough. Saw Travisvb24 and TriDDS and hung out with them for a while before the race. IT WAS COLD.
Swim
  • 07m 37s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was ok. The whole time I felt like I was going slower than I thought I should be. Sort of chalking it up to only having 3 or 4 swim training sessions since the wipe out, so I have been missing a lot of time in the pool. That and some idiot kept swerving back and forth into me. Started towards the front and was 8 out of 65 in my AG after the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more with the wetsuit and not swim when it is 39 degrees.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Much better than my nearly 5 minute T1 at Pewaukee, and this time I had a wetsuit. I made it a point as I was running in to make sure that I moved as quickly as possible
What would you do differently?:

Not Much
Bike
  • 57m 6s
  • 15.44 miles
  • 16.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I am a little disappointed, but I guess I will just have to work harder on the hills next time.
What would you do differently?:

DO MORE HILL TRAINING.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Good T2. I rode in my running shoes as I don't have clipless pedals yet, so it made it a fast transition for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 52s
  • 3.07 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I was suprised with my time here. It was faster than I thought it was going to be, but as the AG rank states I am still in the lower 50% on time so I will have to keep working on running.
What would you do differently?:

Run more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little and talked to Travis, Chris, and Sandy and a couple of other friends that were doing the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough hill training on the bike, and still not enough running, so I am really going to have to kick it up.

Course: HILLLYYYYYY. I read everyone's race reports from last year about how hilly this course was and thought to myself it couldn't be that bad, well it was. It was a pain in the azz. Going into the race I figured I could cut the most time off of the bike leg and wanted to cut it to under 50 minutes or so, but this was not to be.

Great race in that awful cold. Great run, too-- I can't believe that time didn't get you top 50% in your AG for the run. That's crazy! Way to improve those transitions, too!

Yeah the run times in my AG were crazy. I had the 2nd and 3rd men overall in my AG and they were 17:10 and 17:42 respectively on the run. I don;t care who you are, but that is just crazy fast. The transitions were better because I left my sandwich at home and decided to eat lunch after.

Great job!  I would probably have just stayed warm in the car on a morning like that.  Congrats!
