Subject: Best way to remove Sharpie ink?
Does anyone have good way besides elbow grease and soap to remove race numbers from Sharpie ink?

I thought for sure I'd find it on a search but didn't find anything.

I know the race that I had already applied sunblock, that the markings came off real easy. Of course I failed to do that at last weeks sprint and again this morning for my Oly.

Any tips or tricks appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

Rubbing alcohol always works for me.  Every so often I find that the spray on sunscreen actually takes my numbers off too.

The shower gel that I use took it off right away in the shower - I didn't scrub that hard either, cuz I kinda wanted to parade around my numbers at our young adult church service that night But it came off really easily - maybe my shower gel is just really potent. After the next morning's shower, there was nothing left.

Why do you want to get rid of them. You can't see them under office attire and that is the only place I would thinkt hat you would really need to cover them. Besides the lady folk seem to like them.

Nail polish remover works. And if your kid ever draws on your dining room table with a sharpie- use Mr Clean magic eraser (but not on your skin as I've heard it causes burns)

Sandpaper should be pretty effective.

They fade after a couple days. It's made to stick on there pretty good, so just be patient.

I agree I try to keep them on as long as possible and show them off with swims at the Y, shorts as much as possible.

Why do you want them off? You earned them...wear them with pride!

Baby oil worked great removing my numbers. I thought they were way cool, but my wife was less than impressed.

ditto

you should avoid scrubbing any race number areas for at least two days after a race

Amen brother!

I'm not sure if the folks at the gym would know what the numbers were for. They may think I'm 321 years old, because there's an O on my right calf for Olympic, others will think that stands for damn that guy is OLD, or the 41 on the other calf may mean he's escaped the glue factory 41 times and that my time is due.

If I was younger I'd be all good with showing it off.

I don't wear nice clothes at work unless you include a raging structure fire, I do like showing off my turnout gear, and don't mind burning buildings, if that counts for anything. Heck I don't even know how to tie a tie, but if you need to jump off a high rise, I can set you up with any knot and gear you want.

My wife thought they were silly too...then SHE started racing...

She loves to show me her numbers...usually on the run...as she is passing me....

I use eye makeup remover pads.  Found that they work on bike grease as well, since I don't keep gojo around the house.

I use a stiff brush and soap. What's a little more pain after a tri?

I still have numbers from the Chicago Accenture from three weeks ago, but that is because I didn't use enough sunscreen and the outline of the numbers are literally burned into my skin from the sun.

My body chemistry is such that mine are usually gone by the time the swim is over. I wish I knew a way to make them last longer.

Don't know if anyone saw this, but I got a kick in the papers today out of Felicity Huffman saying when being interviewed at the Emmy Awards last night after doing a relay (run leg) in the Malibu tri yesterday morning that she "still had a '13' on her arm but tried to cover it up with makeup" for the awards. So I guess that's another approach...

(BTW: Kudos to her--and her husband, Bill Macy--for showing up to compete with the awards that afternoon and with a nomination to boot. Also Jon Cryer ("Two and a Half Men") did the full tri again even though his show was up for an Emmy and I imagine he hustled over to the awards after the race.)

My kids body wash takes them off with ease. I guess the producers of that stuff think kids 8 and 6 year olds might wright on their arm or hand or leg or head etc etc.
