Age Group Rank = 53/59
Pre-race routine:

Hour and fifteen drive, ate pb&j with red bull.Set up transition area in dark.
Event warmup:

10 min stretching swam easy 150.
Swim
  • 15m 7s
  • 700 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Zig zagging guy was swimming into me, after 3rd time used clothesline to his ear move.Breast stroke guy had me blocked in, two lines on both sides trying to pass, too big to go under, had to wait my turn. Did not get kicked or punched. Stopped way too much.
What would you do differently?:

Had to pass too many people and got blocked too many times. Need to swim way more aggressive and start more twards inside.
Swim with wetsuit, water was not cold but it was a advantage that most people used except me.
Transition 1
  • 04m 40s
Comments:

Hill right out of transition made it difficult.
What would you do differently?:

Go Faster.
Bike
  • 63m 40s
  • 18 miles
  • 16.96 mile/hr
Comments:

Specialized mountain bike got me into the race but did me no favors, average speed without downhills was 13 mph. Tire humm from the knobbie tires was freaking people out, it almost sounded like a semi truck comming at them. passed by entire age group as well as others, lost track at 52.
What would you do differently?:

Race with tri bike with clip on pedals, wont be anytime soon!
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Very smooth, already had running shoes on from bike.
Run
  • 43m 57s
  • 4 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Way too tired from riding mountain bike, knees did well just ran a snails pace.
What would you do differently?:

More agressive on run also, include more hills in training.
Post race
Warm down:

jogged and walked in sand, walked on grass back to bike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First race, truck was stolen friday with all of my race gear inside, mountain bike was very difficult to ride, too tired entering run. Was not even nervous and slept great, very dissapointed.

I left you an inspire, but kudos for you on your first race, esp. after the truck/bike set back.  Hope to meet you sometime soon.
