Pre-race routine:

Early wake-up and a little cereal/banana for breakfast. Loaded my Mt. bike on the car and we hit the road with a quick stop at 7-11 for my coffee. Parked at a friends house near the start, gave katie a kiss (she has a bum knee but decided to walk it anyway), and headed out for my warm-up.
Event warmup:

I used this as my weekly long run so I needed to get a few miles in before and after the 1/2 to fill out an 18 mile day. We parked at a friend's place near the start and I took off for about 3 miles of easy warm up.

Comments:

Good training run. I wasn't looking to set a PR and didn't want to compromise my training next week just to kill myself for the weekly long run. I went out easy and gradually built my pace towards the end. This turned out to be a nice pregression run. By mile 10 I was up to full speed and logged a couple of 6:30 miles, then backed off for the final mile and shgut it down to an easy jog at 13.
Post race
Warm down:

2 more miles of coold down to finish off my 18 mile day. I headed back to the car, grabbed my mt. bike, hit up Java Surf for a breakfast burrito and coffee, then made my way to the boardwalk to wait for Katie. Our Shamrock/RnR tradition is for me to meet her on the boardwalk and jog in the last mile or so with her.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wasn't there to race and I haven't been training for a fast 1/2 mary.

Event comments:

RnR is a high profile race and they always do things big. My perspective as someone running up front is likely different from someone back in the masses. Although I would have liked more aid stations along the course, there was always plenty available when I hit one as well as in the finishing area. I'd imagine that once 10,000 people have already gone through there might be a little less organization and I know they have run low of things in the past. Still though, I think they do a good job with a very big event.
