Sunny
Total Time = 1h 39m 57s
Overall Rank = 76/191
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/14
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5am. Had a soy shake, got my stuff and left for Aurora. Hung out in transition with Drew. He chose a good spot in transition, and I copied him by parking right next to him. Found Ovetta and laughed at the fact that she had FOUR bananas on her transition towel (she did the HIM).

While we were in transition before the race, the HIM people were coming in from the swim. Drew says to me, "well it's not every day that you see that!" And I look over and there is a naked man, changing in transition. OMG. The name of the race is Crescent Moon, not Full Moon!
Event warmup:

A little swimming in some very cold water. Chatted and shivered with Drew and Melanie.
Swim
  • 21m 6s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I suck at OWS. My time includes the run up the beach which was probably 200 or more yards.

And that water was COLD! they said it was 68 degrees...yeah, maybe right at the shore! My hands were really cold, but I did warm up about 1/2 way through
What would you do differently?:

Swim LOTS more in open water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

I was 3/14 in AG for T1. And I could improve a lot I think.
What would you do differently?:

Improve transitions! Practice!
Bike
  • 45m 22s
  • 12.9 miles
  • 17.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Five turn-arounds on a sprint course in 2 loops is just nuts. But it wasn't the RD's fault...there was construction on the regular course. It just sucked to be cruising along and have to come to almost a stop to turn around FIVE TIMES. AND the course was pretty darn hilly.

For me to be 3rd in AG for the bike, and for it to be 17 mph, it was hilly!
What would you do differently?:

I may have pushed a little too hard (ie, being a masher) on the hills, and hurt my run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

I need to improve transitions. 6/14 in AG here.
What would you do differently?:

practice!
Run
  • 30m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt dead on every uphill. My legs were super heavy and I had to walk some of the uphills! argh!
What would you do differently?:

Do more hill work. I can do a lot better than this.
Post race
Warm down:

Erik, the kids and my brother-in-law all cheered for me, which was cool, even if they didn't know it was me until I was right next to them. Got my recovery drink from transition and hung out with them for a little. Watched the awards and went home!

Always good to hang with the BT crew. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hmmm, I need to work on hills, especially in running.

Event comments:

Great late season race. I'd do it again. I think the RD said that for next year it will be on Saturday before the Harvest Moon HIM, so the 2 races aren't coinciding.

Even with all the hills you rocked that course. Great job! I nearly forgot (repressed?) about the "full moon" guy. Too funny.

Yay you!! Fantastic job...what a bunch of crazy hills on the bike course

Erik, the kids and my brother-in-law all cheered for me, which was cool, even if they didn't know it was me until I was right next to them.

That is hilarious!

Come on up here and you can OW swim all the time with me...my favourite activity

Terrific job!  I just did a race with lots of hills and turns myself, so I can DEFINITELY feel your pain with this one!

Wow, so you got the full moon shot before you even started the race! That is hilarious. Can't say I have had that experience. Nice job on the race, a 9:45 pace on the hills sounds fast to me! Thankfully Texas hills are quite rolling. There were definitely lots of rolling hills on the course, but it cracks me up to read people's race reports talk about the "hill climbs" on the course, come on now people, this is TEXAS, not Colorado!

Oh my gosh ... a NAKED man in transition ... how did I miss that!  You had a great race.  It's always fun to see you.  We need to plan a weekend ride sometime since we don't get to chat much at the races!

Great race!  I can't believe the water is already that cold.  Fall is here!  You did great to finish 5th in your AG.  Now it's time for some running to get ready for your marathon.

Hey girlie.

Crazy bike course. Yes it is hilly. Lots of hills. I didn't think the water was all that cold though I liked it!

Good job on the bike. you rock as usual. LOL at the Full Moon. Now that's some crazy stuff.
