abud7373 - 2007-11-21 8:16 PM Me too! done. I was just going to post about Costco Edited to ask... Why would one need the Edge and the Forerunner?
Well, need is a subjective term. . the Edge is a better bike device, if only by a little. It mounts better than the foreunner with the kit in that it is more traditional bike mount. The edge has a larger screen as I recall which is easier to see while riding. The new edges look to be awesome, but are very very pricey (like $700).

Edge has better altitude reading, forerunner always overstates it

Edge gives you real time altitude, also more options per screen due to the larger screen

10 hour battery time limits forerunner use in an IM (unless you go sub 10 bike/run

I forgot next week is my birthday, maybe I'll get an edge,,,,,,,,,

If I were getting an edge, I would try to wait a bit. There are new models coming and I have to think the price of the edge will drop even more in the coming months. I bet some great deals will been had on ebay by spring.

I've just picked one of these up for my boyfriend for Christmas. There's no sale or rebate in the UK, but the Foreunner and wireless cadence sensor come in at £157 from Amazon.co.uk which pitches it at about £315. I really wanted the Edge, but that's another £70, though I think it comes with the sensor.

Hope he likes it LOL

Okay, so my new toy arrived today, and I'm trying to get it setup on my aerobars, but the orientation of the bike mount kit doesn't work on my aerobars. If I attach it as it came, the device will be side ways. So I need that little circular handlebar width thing that attaches perpendicular to the aerobars. I have the FSA Vision TT setup - anyone have any luck attaching this to their handlebars? Thanks!

Get the XL version of this http://www.trisports.com/computermount.html?productid=computermount&channelid=FROOG.  Works like a champ.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll check that out.

Re: the 305.

Holy cood gadget Batman! There is TONS of useful training stuff on this thing. You're able to set different HR zones based on sport (run, bike & other), and you can set a virtual pacer to keep you on track. The pacer can be set by goal time and distance, pace and distance, pace and time. The screen is configurable to allow use of 1 to 4 quadrants, and you can set what each quadrant displays. It's TOTALLY like the electronics on a boat - but WAY cheaper. Anyhow - the software installed easily and it works. It's pretty cool to watch how elevation changes change pace and HR. It takes alot of the guessing out of the equation. I could take an hour or so after each training session and do this longhand (only if I took good notes while running), or I can use this and have it all in a matter of SECONDS.

It's pretty cool. Dare I say, WICKED cool. He-he!

Would I spend $400+ for it? I don't know, that's a tough one. But considering that it will cost $100 for a cyclometer with cadence, and an HRM is around $100, paying $260 (add in some money for the HRM strap, and the cadence thingy) is a no brainer. And if you have 2 bikes, you can bring it with you on each bike - you don't need 2 cyclometers. You'll need to buy 2 cadence thingys (if you want cadence on the other bike), but otherwise, the speed and HRM go with you. Good stuff.

Any Canadians? Where's the best deal In Canada to buy one? The Costco.ca website doesn't have them on sale. Any other suggestions?

The costco price is not bad for Canada, plus it includes shipping. We don't have the buying power as the US so a lot of our prices are still higher. The cheapest place I've seen in Canada is GPSCentral.ca ($224) - both are definitely a lot cheaper than suggested retail ($349).

They run rebates fairly frequently so if you can wait there should be another.
