Red Rock Co.
78F / 26C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 34m 37s
Overall Rank = 329/564
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 35/46
Pre-race routine:

Had a bowl of cocoa-crispies and my MRP shake. More water and stretching.
Event warmup:

Treaded water for 10 minutes before the gun went off.
Swim
  • 19m 25s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

First OWS with that many at the start for my wave. Usually I get in a group of 25 to 30 this was more like 150! Got tired of being kicked in the stomach and trading elbows so I started going wide on the bouys. I went a little too wide and ended up swimming ~1100m instead! When you put in the total distance swam I had a really fast 1:45/100m. But alas I will have that horrible time on the books.
What would you do differently?:

Fight the whole way? Wasn't interested in loosing a tooth during the swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

The run from the water to the entrance of T1 added 90 seconds to my swim time. I thought we were starting the 5K barefoot!
What would you do differently?:

Go faster!
Bike
  • 36m 12s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.89 mile/hr
Comments:

Great Ride! the time here reflects the run to and from the mount/dismount lines. I measured my time without that and I was going 20.1 on the course itself! The entire first lap I thought I was pushing too hard because my speed was up, but my HR felt ok (no monitor on the race) so i just kept pushing. Smoked the second lap just the same and had fun. I could have given a little more but been sorry on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to leave shoes on bike. That would require better shoes for tri's. mine are pretty low end bike shoes from Shimano.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

A bit slow but again the transition area was large to accomodate all the athletes.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Run
  • 33m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a bit worried about the run today. I wasn't sure how my knee would do, but it held up great. I was glad I didn't push out a rocket time on the bike by mile three. Of course as the finish line came into sight the adrelinine kicked in and I sprinted it out. My knee did great, just my muscles are sore.
What would you do differently?:

A terrific run for me. There really isn't a whole lot I can do to improve the 5K on a tri without going to bionic knees;).
Post race
Warm down:

More Accelerade and water. Lots of strecthing while we hung around to get my bike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim. Plain and simple I lost 5 minutes on the swim from poor navigation.

Event comments:

I was very impressed by Red Rock Co. This is my first race with this crew and they are fantastic! I will definitely do more of their events next year.

Great race even with your OLD knees. I am strange but I enjoy the large swim starts with all the fighting, they can be a little much sometimes but I enjoy them. Again great race and keep up the training.
