Swim
Comments: Swim took place in a 20m pool. As mentioned earlier I was a bit hyper about holding up the guy behind me so after the first 100m I felt a slight scuff on my feet and got out the way. Not my best swim ever as: 1. we were going clockwise which is always bad for me. 2. The 20m really threw off my timing for the turns. The only saving grace was getting a good tow for the last 400m. What would you do differently?: I need to improve my tumbleturns when going clockwise. Transition 1
Comments: OK, there were only 9 of us but we all exited the pool pretty close. As a result the transition area suddenly felt pretty tight. I had wimped out and gone for putting the bike shoes on in T1, so I probably lost a bit of ground there. T1 felt ok though overall despite the fact that I could hear my wife shouting that she had been much faster. What would you do differently?: The only thing would be to become more confident at putting the shoes on while on the bike. Bike
Comments: My worst fears came to fruition. After about 2 miles 2 guys had passed me and I was now solid last. The back marker. About a mile further down the road I could no longer see anybody infront of me. This was a lonely cycle. I tried my best to shout out to marshals as I went by them that I thought I was the last man. Rather disheartening when I occasionally got a shout back of "Yes, I know". I thought I managed to keep up a reasonable pace (for me) and remembered to take my feet out of my shoes before making the final turn. What would you do differently?: It's just the story of my triathlons. There is too big a discrepancy between my swim time and my bike/run times. Transition 2
Comments: With the transition area completely to myself this went very smooth. Run
Comments: Much the same as the bike. All alone, trying to inform marshals that I was the last man. I was starting to get worried towards the half way point when I hadn't seen a soul for ages, no marshals and definitely no competitors. I had left my watch off and there had been no distance markers out on the course. Yup, seriously starting to get worried that I may have missed the far turn point. With no reference points , how do tell when to give up? Finally got to the next turn point, what a relief. The run back along Crinan Canal was great. Soft surface, tail wind and heading for home. This part of the run flew by. I came back into the finish area and got the loudest cheer I have ever had. I can recomend finishing last. Post race
Event comments: My wife won her age group. Absolutely fantastic. Last updated: 2007-09-23 12:00 AM

This is a very small event but I got pretty scared when I noticed that I was in the final heat. To make matters worse there were only 9 people in this heat and some of the names were pretty recognisable. Only one other guy in my lane, a quick google on him revealed that he did the Aberfeldy Middle Distance swim MUCH quicker than me. $hit, I'm in posn 1 and he's in posn 2.
Two car loads of us went up, so the warm up was the normal affair of trying to see as much of everyones race as possible.
