Pre-race routine:

This was my first race. I was very nervous. My two friends met at my house and we loaded everything up. Tried to eat something - got a piece of bread with pb down and some water/gatorade. Some ginger to calm my stomach and a little coffee for a pep.
Event warmup:

Parked and walked our bikes and got set up in transition. Still very nervous but excited. Everyone was so nice and it was a fun environment. Found my husband and my friends' husbands and they wished us luck. Quick jog around the transition area...then waited for 20 minutes to start.
Run
  • 19m 25s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm not a runner. I was pretty happy with this pace. I was tired but looking forward to the bike. It felt good.
What would you do differently?:

I need to keep training on my running. I'm planning on running a lot this fall/winter.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

This was my first transition ever. I thought it was fine. I was tired so I walked some and took my inhaler and cruised on out - feeling happy to be on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I guess just learn to go faster and try to run with my bike and in and out of transition.
Bike

  • 14.85 mile/hr
Comments:

I think this is a pretty fun course, but I'm not good at all on hills so I need to work on that. I also have a mountain bike with hybrid tires. I think I need to invest in a better bike. Anyway, I felt like I was really putting everything I had into it for the most part...I'm just no good at hills.
What would you do differently?:

More hill practice - better bike - drink more on the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

This seemed fine to me - I realize it's a lot slower than a lot of people but my first race - I felt comfortable with it.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep practicing.
Run
  • 25m 48s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pretty much spent at this point. I walked most of this. I was okay doing that. I ran the last half mile or so. I met a couple great women and we finished together - it was very fun.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to train more and train harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Hugged my friends and my husband and my new friends I met! Walked around a little checked our times. Got our stuff and went to lunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I realized I put a lot of time in on the bike (not nearly enough running) but even when I put the time in on the bike I don't train hard. I just get time in. I need to push it more so I can be more successful in this type of event. I also need a new bike. First race - I'm happy that it's over and I'm happy I did it. I'll be back!

Event comments:

This is a great race. People are so helpful and friendly. I thought that it was very well organized. It was so fun to be among so many great women!

Great job! You are an Iron Girl!!! Congrats on completing your first race - you did awesome! I highly recommend a road bike - you can get used ones quite cheaply It makes life so much easier, especially on the hills!

What a great first race!
You did great on the bike especially with the bike you have. That definitely can take alot out of you for the 2nd run.
It is a hilly course and I would say a tough event for a first timer.
Great Job
