In the average long day of hiking, I'm sure that my German Shorthaired Pointer puts in a marathon. At least. He is absolutely tireless. Problem would be rest days. Or biking days. Or pretty much any hour of the day that you're not running. They are a great, loving, spunky, kind breed, but the energy level is INTENSE. So it you don't run a lot and can't let him/her run off leash too (doesn't really matter how fast you are... they need to sprint a bunch too), you might not like them so much. Depends, though, maybe you would. Also, if you like to hunt birds, it helps.

Cheetah - 2007-09-30 10:29 PM OMG, your dogs are so CUTE! One more question... when you guys run with your dogs, do you need to put them on a leash? Or, do they just run along side you?

I always keep my on a leash,, I live in the suburb's so there are too many risks to let him be free, cars, other dogs, animal control officers.  Mine has gotten really good at just ignoring other dogs or people walking by and staying with me,, but then again he's having a blast..

the only problem I've ever had was running at night and this guy who was riding his bike had his dog on a 20-30 ft leash running around plus the leash was tied to his handlebars.. I run with a blinkie light at night on me and my dog's collar, he had nothing on. all of a sudden this little dog runs at us and wraps his leash around my legs while barking at my dog.  I ended up pulling this guy off his bike when I grabbed the leash and pulled hard to get some slack in it..

Don't get a husky if you get embarassed by being pulled, left behind, and out run. My puppy does all these, he goes like the Energiser bunny.

This is my running partner in the cooler weather. She only weighs 18 lbs or so but can run unbelievably fast.

When she runs with me she is just trotting and hardly ever pants because I don't run fast enough.
