Playtri
82F / 28C
Overcast
Total Time = 2h 43m
Overall Rank = 78/154
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/20
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am had cereal bar and cinnamon roll for breakfast, drank bottled water. Double checked my bag to make sure I had not forgotten anything.
Event warmup:

Swam to the first buoy and back not very far maybe 50 yards.
Swim
  • 35m 59s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was slower in the swim than I had hoped for, was expecting to at least be under 2:00 100yd pace. I got off course a few times which cost me some time. I think the main issue was I was a little intimidated by the view of the course, this 750m loop looked a lot longer than the 800m loop at the Metroplex Tri, sure it was just the diff view but it looked like a long way, that coupled with the fact I had to swim it twice was a bit intimidating. I held back a little because I wanted to make sure I would finish the swim.
What would you do differently?:

push harder, let the chips fall etc.
Transition 1
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

T1 times are long because it was a long run from the water to the racks.

Other than that T1 was pretty uneventful.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 24s
  • 24 miles
  • 19.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Wanted to finish the bike in under 1:15:00, so was happy with my results here. Had a pretty decent wind out of the South so the trip down Ridge street/road was a bit slow, also the corner of Ridge and Virginia had a pretty challenging hill (at least to me) and had to climb it 4 times, by the 4th pass I was only able to go 10mph up that hill.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, had I pushed any harder, I think it would have affected my run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Getting better at running with my bike shoes, which was good since it was a long way from the dismount line to my rack. I was in the very back of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice getting out of my shows while coasting up to the dismount line.
Run
  • 47m 51s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a good run, set 8:00 pace as my goal and came in a little under that so I am very happy with my run time, especially considering the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder at the finish in order to finish at least 1 second faster, I ended up tied with Dave Young for overall time. Even a 10th of a second faster and I would have moved up a slot.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to improve my swimming.

Event comments:

This was my 3rd PlayTri event, they all seem to be pretty well run and organized.
