Overall Rank = 176/481

Age Group Rank = 22/38
Pre-race routine:

Had some cereal, coffee, got dressed and drove out.
Event warmup:

Ran (well, jogged) ~6mi before, in order to get more mileage. I was surprised how easy that felt, I thought I would be more tired from the hard bike yesterday. Kept HR for the warmup VERY low, low Z1.
Had part of a clif bar and ~3-4 shot bloks during the warmup.

Comments:

INCREDIBLE race. I am totally amazed, I have no idea how I ran this fast. Yesterday, I biked a ~55mi route I do often at about 0.5mph faster than I've ever done before, with my HR pegged 20bpm higher than usual (mid-hi Z3 vs mid Z1). Then, I ran 60min (~5.8mi) before the race, to get more mileage for Marine Corps Mary training. I was only hoping to match or slightly beat my PR from 18months ago of 1h57m (8:57/mi). I totally broke that PR!

Anyway, on to the race itself:
There were no timing mats at the start, so I positioned myself on the side about a row or two back. First mile came pretty fast in 8:14, but my HR was low so I kept at it. Pace evened out around 8:30/mi, and HR was in Zone 2, so I kept the pace up. HR started to slowly creep up, getting into Zone3 by mile 5-6. I basically tried to keep the pace steady, and was satisfied to see HR slowly go from Z2 to Z3, just like I'd want.

It got kinda tough around mile 8-9, but managed to keep on going. The last 4-5 miles definitely were not easy.
At mile 12, I dropped the pace down to around 7:30-7:45 for a few minutes, but I didn't quite think I could hold that effort for the last couple minutes. I kinda wimped out, since I knew I was about to completely destroy my PR and goal for the day, so I let myself back off a bit at around mile 12.7, and went back to ~8:20s pace. Gave a slight kick over the home stretch, but not too much.

Had some hints of quad cramps in the last half mile, but otherwise legs held up. Took a total of 4 shot bloks (1.3 servings) during the race, with water or gatorade at most aid stations.

Mile 1: 8:14, AvgHR 163
Mile 2: 8:35, AvgHR 171
Mile 3: 8:18, AvgHR 172
Mile 4: 8:30, AvgHR 177
Mile 5: 8:38, AvgHR 175, 2 shot bloks
Mile 6: 8:34, AvgHR 180
Mile 7: 8:34, AvgHR 178
Mile 8: 8:42, AvgHR 181
Mile 9: 8:25, AvgHR 183
Mile 10: 8:53, AvgHR 183 (2 shot bloks)
Mile 11: 8:37, AvgHR 184
Mile 12: 8:24, AvgHR 188
Mile 13: 8:06, AvgHR 192
Mile 13.1: 7:28/mi, AvgHR 194
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, really. Could have possibly executed a better final mile, but I don't care, I far exceeded my goal for the day. All in all, an incredible weekend of biking & running.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched, got a massage, and TWO BEERS!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hard bike the day before, and 6 mile warmup run.

Event comments:

Overall, a very good race. Well marked course, lots of food & beer afterwards. It would have been nicer not to be a two-loop course. Some scenic parts along the water.
