Pre-race routine:

got to sleep in today which is a first for my triathlon career and turned out to be really wierd. my body still managed to wake me up at 4am on the dot because it knew it was triathlon day and thats the usual wake up time!
Event warmup:

biked about 2 miles took it easy for a while and then threw in a little faster stuff, figured out that the wind was gonna be a bitch out there...boy did that turn out to be true.
Swim
  • 09m 30s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

really good swim for me! this was probly the first race ive been in this summer with an accurate swim distance...because its in a pool...pretty hard to mess that one up. anyways swam in a lane with 2 women who were very impressive swimmers and i used one of them to draft on for about a lap before she decided to drop my sinking ass!
What would you do differently?:

this just really shows where i need to work...50th overall and 7th of 12 in my ag...ouch. time to check out the new TI swim coach in town!!
Transition 1

Comments:

nothing special, good fast transition!
Bike

Comments:

so sometimes loving the bike hurts me...this was one of those times lol...so i hopped on the red beast and passed all of the people in my wave that had smoked me on the swim in the first 5 miles and was pullin about 27mph for most of the time without feeling like i was trying too hard. at this time i realized that i definitely had a tailwind but didnt understand the craziness of it...oops again. so i kept pounding it out with noone in front of me just having a good time...and then i hit the crosswinds sections...absolutely brutal and just downright scary at times. you would be riding on one side of the road and get hit with a gust and end up in the opposite lane...it was CRAZY. all this time i kept pushing hard and sent the HR up through the roof and told the stomach to shutdown so this would have been a good time to cut back on the fluids for awhile, but i didnt...oops x3. still, i had an average of almost 24mph before hitting the turnaround. started the way back and almost got tossed from the bike again by some gusts until heading straight into the wind for the last 4 miles which was brutal!! i was pushing just about as hard as i could to avg about 16-17mph...sick...pushed hard all the way back...OOPS should have let my stomach chill and digest all the H2O that i drank...

Good ride but it hurt me on the run when my stomach kicked me in the face...haha
What would you do differently?:

not push quite as hard / drink less water / tell the winds to cease!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

good transition
Run
  • 26m 52s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

After keeping my HR in the 600 bpm range (lies but you get the idea) my stomach shutdown and did not digest any of the water i put into it (something any exercise science student should know...shit) and it hurt bigtime on the run. about 100 yds out of transition i knew it was gonna hurt and my stomach was already cramping...shit x2...so i walked about 15 sec which helped the crampage but the whole rest of the run i could feel / hear the water bouncing around. probly didnt help that it was an xc course with lots of bumps haha but i kept with it and finally caught about 8 people from the wave in front of me in the woods. it was nice to have someone to chase after about 40min of being by myself.
What would you do differently?:

not have water coming out the eyeballs and keep working on my running, its coming along!!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

i havent been doing the work i should for a sprint, and im thinking that im not a huge sprint fan, i like the longer distance better. should have done more speed work but no big deal, it was fun and i got to race once more before whats gonna be a long winter!!!

Event comments:

good stuff, got to hang out with some donks and get a race in!! if they had races every day for the whole year, i would do 95% of them :D got ever so closer to some tri hardware by taking 4th in my AG. figured they would drop the 1st place guy since he took 3rd OA but no such luck...oh well. im getting closer to scoring some metal every race and hopefully by next spring i can get myself up there. congrats scott on your 2nd place, andrew on your 3rd, and jason on your sweet streak of 2's lol. eeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwout!

nice race baby rico suave donkey -- and great season. I'm sure you'll start with your hardware collection next year, and given your start, it should do fairly well...

You make me proud to be your elder.

...wait, wtf does that even mean?  I dunno, but smokin' race considering that wind and the sloshing factor!  You're gonna KILL next season.
