Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Got up about 4:30. Had a PB and J. Got to the race site a little before 6. Was surprised at how many people were there already! Set up my site, got body marked and struggled into my wet suit.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 45m 55s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goal was to try to do better with sighting. I did the best I ever have with this. I only got off a little bit between the last buoy and home. I think watching the elites get way off course when they went intimidated me a bit though. As we were treading water, I had this moment of feeling there is no way I can do this. There is no way I can swim in Florida. Then once I got started, I felt comfortable the whole way. My time is still slow, but I was happy with the swim and didn't feel the least tired at the end.
What would you do differently?:

There just is no way with my and my husband's schedules that I can swim more than 2 times a week. Sometimes that can't even happen. If I could do it more, I think I would be better.
Transition 1
  • 03m 33s
Comments:

I just couldn't get it together. Got wet suit stuck on my left heel. Couldn't get my helmet buckled.
Bike
  • 3h 16m 25s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.11 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the bike. I tried to just keep a decent pace and not kill it. I felt so much stronger than last year at the end. The wind was strong at times and the cross winds knocked me around a bit. I had to stop once to go to the bathroom. Nutrition was 2 scoops of Perpetuem per hour and water. Nutrition was right on.
What would you do differently?:

If I weren't on the trainer so much, I think I could be faster. But, again, there is no way. I am lucky to get on the road once every 2 weeks. I felt great about this bike, even though I am still slow. I was so happy at how I felt strong at the end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

No major issues, just was slow.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure?
Run
  • 1h 44m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I still feel like a runner at heart. I just love to run. I didn't look at my watch one time, but ran completely on how I felt. I ran a pace I could keep up for the whole way. I felt great overall. Relaxes up the hills. Took 3 gels total with water and gatorade in between. Was just a touch nauseated at one point. I have spent less time this year doing hard runs and yet ran 5 minutes faster. I think this reflects being stronger off the bike. Overall, a great run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Had to pick up my 3 year-old and hold him as he was crying for him mama and is under the weather.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I only good at 1 of the 3 events. Unfortunately, I realize with my schedule that this will probably not change. I felt great after this race though, because I know I am ready for Florida! I can't wait!

Oh so bummed that I missed you at the race, but glad that you had a good day.  Don't second guess your training schedule, Ms. Consistency ... you have every right to feel prepared to take on Florida.

You go, girl.
