Overall Rank = 330/384
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 60/64
Pre-race routine:

Cheerios, grapes, and 3oz of water during at the house before driving over..
Got to transition at 5:305ish and started my usually setup a little, walk away for 3-4 mins, go back and set up some more, then walk away, etc,... it keeps me away from the water, and settles my nerves.

Event warmup:

Found a clear spot away from people and other things and stretched for a solid 10 mins. Dummy me I should have done 15-20 mins of stretching. Wetsuit on at 6:25 during some anouncments, then walked down to the water..
Swim
  • 39m 45s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt really good the entire swim. Sighting was good. Headed back in to the sun on the last part, and picked up the bouys late, but did not have to adjust to much.
What would you do differently?:

kick more and stretch out each stroke more. At times I felt I was turning over fast without that extra glide feeling.
Transition 1
  • 05m 50s
Comments:

just took too long, puting on Socks, and shoes and also my jersey. I was slow for no reason but to enjoy the relaxing time in T1
What would you do differently?:

cut 1:30 off my T1 time.
Bike
  • 3h 11m 50s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad. I was a little bothered in the saddle at the end of the ride. I need to adjust my seat and stem a little more in the downward postion if I am going to stay in Aero that much. Neck was getting sore from looking up from Aero. A few times when there was no wind, I went hands free to stretch out my back. Also, I need to invest in better bike shoes which are more comfortable for the longer distances. I knew I was having issues with my toes going numb, but they were hurting at mile 50....
What would you do differently?:

train more in Aero
Transition 2
  • 04m 34s
Comments:

Cause my toes and Back were hurting, I took my time in T2. At this point I know I had hammered the last 10 miles of the bike and my legs were tired.
What would you do differently?:

cut about 1 min off that time..
Run
  • 2h 26m 23s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

so lap 1 and 2 my hamstring (right) hurt so much that I thought it would never go away and I would be walking 13.1 miles today!!! luckly at the end of one road, where we turn left onto Edgemear, I start a slow shuffle. That was ok, I was able to shuffle for the next 5 miles until I got back to the trans area to start lap 2. I peed and felts better. I over drank the Gatorade at the aid stations, and hence miles 7 and 8 were rough, I was full of liquids. The next 3 water stations I only dumped water on my head and spit out mouthfulls. But the hills were killing me! I walked all of them. I was realy tired and hurting at the mile marker for 12.5 My legs then shut down and I could not trot the last 300 yards in. I WALKED!! UGH. but I finished under 6:30 which was a goal of mine!
What would you do differently?:

need to figure out why my legs were so tired and tight...
Post race
Warm down:

4 banannas, two oranges, two apples, PB&J Bagle, water, water and spot checked the results. WOW some fast bikers were here today!

Great Job and great race report. It sounds like you and I had a lot of the same experiences yesterday. I made a promise to myself to do more run training on hills next year. I think all of us had very tired legs towards the end, could you believe those hills??

Congrats!

Sounds like you do need some new bike shoes that will be more comfortable going long.

You adjusted as needed and finished...very cool!!

Glad you made your time goals....that is always sweet~
