Subject: What to do with leftover Halloween Candy???

This will be the first time that we've been home in this new neighborhood on Halloween.

Two weeks ago, I bought Peanut M&M's, Snickers, and Twix to hand out. I ate all the M&Ms, helped my husband eat the Snickers, and there was like 5 Twix's left. I got more candy yesterday to restock our Trick-or-Treat bucket. This time it was worse - Snickers and OUR FAVE; Reese's PB Cups. DOH!

I don't know if we'll get rid of all the candy, and I really don't want to be the ones eating it - we have no kids of our own to feed it to!

What are you going to do with your leftover Trick or Treat candy? Any suggestions as to what I should do with mine?

I'm thinking I might end up with serious leftovers. I'm so stressed out about having this stuff around me LOL!!!

Maybe I'll just unload it all on the first kid that comes by and turn my light off.

I'm still shaky on this 'give' the candy to neighborhood kids thing.  It wouldn't last long enough in my house!  The concept of 'leftover' candy is hard to grasp.  That implies that I didn't eat ALL of it right away...

We got our candy too early (by a week) and had to get another bag of chewy Sprees... Luckily, we had NO leftovers last night

i've been eating it too. i bought one HUGE bag that had milk dud, almond joy, reese's pb cups, and plain hershey bars. also bought a bag of kit kats, since that's bill's favorites (and he's lost more weight than i have in the last year, the jerk, so he needs the help! ). oh, and a big bag of mini bags of cheddar gold fish. i've put a major dent in the almond joy and pb cups. bill took the kit kats to work. i ordered him to bring them back home. not sure how many actually made it back. anyway, i don't think we'll need to get more, but just by the skin of our (sugar ravaged) teeth. november 1, its all going to the office with bill. okay, if there are any pb cups left, i may keep those home...but everything else has gotta go!

I learned long time ago, not to buy them until a day or 2 before - then they are hidden.  I'm pretty lucky I'm not a 'sweet-eater', so I have no problem putting them away, but my husband is worse than any kid at Christmas.... searches the whole house.  Any leftovers, I've usually brought to the school in our neighbourhood or the shelter house.  Maybe this year the Salvation Army might like them??

I bring the leftover candy to work, as do all my coworkers (pretty sad, considering I work at a YMCA!).  I have two sons who actually rollerblade on Halloween so they can get their candy faster.  Since they always get more candy than I will ever allow them to eat, a good portion of that goes as well.  If it doesn't, I'LL END UP EATING IT!  Very bad, very bad.

I send all the leftovers to school with my kids.  They each get a bag full to take and the teachers use it as rewards.  It's a good deal, the kids are thrilled, the teachers are happy they don't have to buy reward stuff, and I can't eat it!!  I try to buy candy that I don't really like that much, but I always end up eating it anyway.

That is such a great idea! Are you sure the candy is making it to the teachers?

Yup.  It makes it there.  My kids aren't big candy eaters.  They each had one piece tonight and they were happy as can be!!

You can have all the chocolate, but better not touch the Mary Janes!!  I've probably eaten 5 lbs of them this week!!

My wife bought a bag of Twix candies to hand out and we got no trick-or-treaters. So, last night, it got to me... All those delicious Twix bars just waiting to be broken into...

So, I scooped up some choc ice cream, smashed up 3 of those Twix bars and munched! :D Man did it taste good - first candy I've had in over months - but did I feel guilty after I ate it!

Usually I don't get tempted and we have candy, cookies, donuts, ice cream, ... in the house all the time. I don't know what made me give in last night ( Must have been the candy goblins! ) but I'm going to try and remember how I felt after I ate it the next time I am tempted.

Any way, I brought the candy to work and put it a bowl at the end of someone else's desk!

last year we did the great pumpkin thing. where you let the kids leave the candy bag out and the great pumpkin comes and takes all their candy and leaves them a present in return for it. They didn't get such a hoard of candy this year so the great pumpkin may not need to visit this year.

I haven't read the other posts, so someone may have already suggested this, but what I have done the last several years is give a lot of the H candy to the food shelf. My kids get to keep it for about a week or so so they can pick out their favorites, but after that, whatever is left goes to the food shelf. Surprisingly, the kids don't protest too much.

I'm a halloween scrooge. I purposely plan to be away from home on halloween. I take the kids to a party at church where they mostly play games and come home with a little candy. This has worked well for the past 4 years. The kids are happy and I don't have to deal with bags of candy laying around the house before and after halloween.
