Was timberman always 220 bucks!?! It was going to be my A race but I don't think I can throw down that kind of money at the end of an already expensive season.

No, it was $120 bucks (I think for early entry) before it became a 70.3.  If you want fancy banners, you got to pay for them (by the way, not bashing Timberman at all, just an awesome race).

You should think about doing Patriot.  Same guys as Cranberry.  They had some course issues last year with a long run and last minute changes to bike course due to road construction but considering it was a first year HIM, I was very impressed.  I bet it will be even better this year...and much cheaper than 70.3 races.

Yeah that is expensive I registered for Eagleman next year @ $220 seems to be the standard 70.3 price tag. I would love to do Timberman have heard only good things about this race unfortunately not going to happen as too close to IM Moo for me. I need to fit a HIM in early July as part of my training program so I was considering Patriot, Mark sounds like it is a good race according to your observations above....

Patriot was well organized & run & a good course- really quite an accomplishment as it was the first year...definitely a great option for a 70.3

I wish we didn't have to charge that much, but to put on an event like Timberman, it costs $$$$$$....Before we were a 70.3, it was $175. Unfortunately, our costs continue to skyrocket each year. It's $215 this year....

Our goal is to make it a world-class event for everyone, and all of the things that we add to the event cost a bunch of $$$....we could cut some things, but then it wouldn't be what we want it to be for a race....

In the end, I think Timberman is more than worth it, and we're already adding things to the weekend for 2008. We're REALLY proud of the event, and have a bunch of things up our sleeve for 2008

Hey Baitboy, I got this from the Iron distance forum It’s a web site that has all the non-M-dot ironman races. The races are half what the 70.3 and M-dot races cost. Check it out.

You also might want to think about the new ExtremeMan 70.3 in September in Madison. Last year was its first year and it was pretty well run. $125 gets you to the line
