Overall Rank = 1348/
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 77/85
Pre-race routine:

Tossing and turning from 1am until I got up at 4am. Ate piece of peanut butter toast and coffee. The tummy issues I was concerned about turned out to be a non-factor. Met everyone about 4:50. Got to the parking lot around 5:20. Transition about 5:35. Set up transition, Got body marking - 1607 - Took a few photos. Put on wetsuit, walked to start area. The ground was cold, and it was a long barefoot walk, m feet were nomb by the time I got to the race start area. Next time flip-flops would be a good idea. Started down the boat ramp around 7am for a 7:10 start. As soon as my feet hit the water, my goggles popped. As hard as I tried, I could not figure out how to reassemble them. Something that I have done several times in the past. I was floating on my back, trying to make my way to the start area, looking at my goggles like they were a foreign object that I had never seen before. I finally rigged them back together, twisting the strap around until I made it work, with three minutes to spare.

Event warmup:

None really, just the back floating, goggle fixing, 25m to the start.
Swim
  • 13m 36s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I definately need to do some OWS training. Did mostly front crawl, would flip to my back to catch my breath but did not backstroke, just kicked. The swim time includes run up beach to transition area, or I should say walk up beach.
What would you do differently?:

Check my goggles before I am entering the water!!!

Practice, Practice, Practice.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Where the H3(( is my bike? I went to a beginner clinic and they told us we would get lost. Sure enough I did. I knew I was in the 7's. I knew I was in the first row of 7's. But what I did not know was, I was in the first row of 7's next to the 8's, not the first row of 7's next to the 6's. UGH!
What would you do differently?:

Know where my bike is!!! Also try to run. I walked a lot. Need to speed up.
Bike
  • 49m 23s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 11.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to get used to the large groups of guys that were flying by me, screaming "ON YOUR LEFT"
I know that is what they are supposed to do, but when there are groups of 6 or more together, really, I cannot move over anymore.

Both transition times were included in the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Get more miles in. I need to build up my endurance. The longest ride I had done pre-race was 10 miles.
Learn how to drink while riding. I tried to get some water and almost had to stop.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

There was no running with bike. Definately quicker than first transition.
What would you do differently?:

Have gum out. I like to chew gum while I ride and run. My mouth was so dry...and salty.
Run
  • 38m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked one mile or more. I was getting cramps in my side and up near my clavicle. I have not had them since high school. So many people were passing me. Yikes.
What would you do differently?:

Umm, run.
Post race
Warm down:

Found hubby, then found mom with the kids. Ate 1/2 bagel and OJ. Then had to walk 1 mile to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me. I need to work on endurance and bump up my miles considerably.

Event comments:

I had a great time. I am glad I made the commitment to race. This was a great beginner race.
