Comments: This race was part of a weekend festival "Squashblossom Classic". Other events included road cycling races, mountain bike races, and an off-road half marathon. The Race was on a section of gravel road and trail that I mountain bike on now and again, but have only hiked or run a handful of times. I'm usually content with sub 30 minute 5ks, and with this one being off-road and a day after doing a mountain bike race, so I was quite pleased with my time. The temperature was cool, the winds calm, and overall it was a great day to race.  Post race
Warm down: My wife and I left right after the race. She got up early and ventured out into the cold, so a hot breakfast was a reasonable request. I was later advised that I placed for my age group, so maybe there's a medal in the mail. What limited your ability to perform faster: Doing a mountain bike race the day before probably didn't help...but hey, I'm a triathlete...running wouldn't have been enough. Got all my equipment ready the night before. Stopped for a cup of coffee on the way to the sight.
Ate a Clif bar, did some light running to loosen the muscles before stretching.
