Pre-race routine:

got up around 7am. had oatmeal. tried to come up with a costume. dressed the girls in elephant costumes and tutus, me in some of my grandmother's clothes.
Event warmup:

rushed to the race, since i wasn't registered. last time i do that! could have registered on active, but thought i would try race day registration for a chage. bad idea! we were running late and i was stressed thought that they would close registration before we got there! got registered. met up with kelly and her husband. watched ella do the kids' race (on her own! i'm so proud!). headed over to the 5k start. hopped up and down to stay warm. touched my toes a couple times.

Comments:

the run was pretty good. didn't push too hard - but hard enough to stay warm on the cold, drizzly day.
What would you do differently?:

didn't stop at the one water station, and i'm not sure why i didn't. i should have. i was thirsty.
Post race
Warm down:

stuck around for the costume contest. ella and fiona one first prize for the kids' and brought home a dvd a shrek (very fitting for a kid named fiona!).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

didn't have much sleep the last two nights. didn't drink enough.

Event comments:

WHERE WERE YOU, IAN???? :)

great to see kelly and spouse there. this was a fun event for my kids. will do this one again next year, just because i liked having a healthy activity for our family amidst all the sugar consumption of halloween.

no hrm this time. kept my pace slower for the first mile, then tried to pick up my pace a bit. sprinted to the finish.
Course: not as bad as the 1/2 marathon, but similar. muddy in spots, lots of slick leaves. otherwise, packed trail, a bit on grass, a bit on asphalt.

I was there . 'Cept I was looking for 2 kids in mermaids costumes. Like you said in a previous post. I didn't get much of a chance to hang around as bro-in law was in charge of the transportation and went for a quick in and out. I didn't even get a chance to find out where I finished.

SORRY! we switched to the elephant costumes yesterday morning since the weather was so cold. should have brought along an 'IAN' sign, just in case. i was over at the kids' race until just before the 5k too, so that probably didn't help.

maybe we can try again at the turkey trot 5k around lake como?

you had a great race though! whooped my butt, for sure.

Well done to you and the kids. You really ran in that outfit?
Do you really think that it was 50 out there? I reckon that's very optimistic ;-)
and what about that first hill?
As I was leaving I did see a woman pushing a burley round the course and I thought of you.
Lemme see about Lake Como, the mother in law can be pretty intolerant of changes to tradition.

Great outfit!  Did you get to compete in an older AG with that getup?

yup. the real feat wasn't running in it, but fitting into it in the first place. the hat and dress were my grandmother's. the dress was from her more plump 50s, but she was still under 5 feet and small boned. as you can see from how poorly the hat fits, her granddaughter is slightly less small boned (and 5'7" to boot).

that first hill was fun. lots of people were walking up it, despite being at the beginning. kelly and i charged up while maintaining our conversation! woo hoo!

i don't think the turkey trot is ON thanksgiving, just close to it. i'll check the dates (and our own plans). let's agree too all wear our pumpkin chase shirts?

It was fun running together. Glad you had such a good race for your first trail run! I love 'em! You really did well. If you ran the same on pavement, you would have been around 10 min miles or better!
