Sunny
Total Time = 1h 27m 44s
Overall Rank = 53/321
Age Group = W 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/37
Pre-race routine:

Up around 5:15, ate a bagel w/ peanut butter and a banana. Drank a cup of coffee and rode my bike to the transition area about a mile away. It was really cool being able to ride to the race!
Event warmup:

Walked 3/4 mile from the transition area to the swim start.
Swim
  • 21m 46s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Enjoyed this swim which is probably why the time is so slow (relatively) . For whatever reason, I just didn't push it in the swim. I also got too far to the right, I think, and got out of the main channel current. Oh well, I came out of the water happy and ready to ride. :)
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder and navigate better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Good transition for me. Of course, I did get lost in transition for a minute and down the wrong row. I also forgot to remove my heel lifts from my shoes before the race so I did waste some time fiddling with that. So, maybe it wasn't such a good transition after all. lol! At least Wade (Nuthouse) was there to cheer me on and keep me moving.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to learn the flying mount.
Bike
  • 35m 27s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 20.99 mile/hr
Comments:

If there was a pothole on the course, I hit it. lol! Overall, happy with this ride. Had one girl in front of me that drafted the entire race. She would latch on to one person after the other. She got away from me for a while but by the end of the ride, I caught and passed her! Hmph!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Uneventful.
Run
  • 27m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Ha! Ha! Had a really bad stitch for the first mile or so. I was really beating myself up about it too. I was ready to quit triathlon all together. I've spent the entire season watching people run by me out of t2 and I was just sick of it. I had some delusion that this race would be different but...

I finally let out a huge burp around mile 1.5 and was then able to pick up the pace. By mile three, I felt great and was able to pick up the pace a lot! If it had only been a longer run then i may have been able to catch a few of the women that passed me earlier in the run.

What would you do differently?:

Rebuild and improve my running. Got to get the stitches under control and keep the evil negative thoughts out of my head.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, talked to Wade and Jeff. Rode back to the house, got the kids and came back for the awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me.

Event comments:

Was only 10 seconds slower than last year even though my run was 2 minutes slower. Pretty much made up all that time in transition b/c my swim and bike times were about the same.

Glad the season is over so I can concentrate on getting healthy and improving my running.

Really proud of you for struggling through the run. Hope you end up doing the Invitational. Get your triathlon bike shoes, strengthen the knee during the winter and hit White Lake Half hard.

Haha I know the burp you speak of. For some reason I can never keep myself from throwing up after a race. 9 minute miles are still impressive. Great race, great time.
