I just heard that LaSalle may be giving all the runners who didn't get an official time a refund of 1/2 their entry fee!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be unbelievably generous and would make up for any wrong-doing on their part as far as I'm concerned.

But none of the times are official because the race was cancelled and we were ordered to walk.  If you are saying that they will give it to people who came back via walking the shortcuts or on the buses that hardly seems equitable since we were ordered to walk back via the race route.

I thought everyone who crossed the finish before the race was called got an official time.  Regardless, I don't have any details or even know if this is true, it's just the scuttlebut going around.

I can verify for a fact that the Des Moines Marathon is giving $15 off entry for Chicago Marathon praticipants who can authenticate their bib numbers.

Being a newbie to endurance sports I am probably WAY off base and talking out of my butt here, but...don't we all race / challenge ourselves against failure? I am confused why everyone (even the people that DIDN'T race) are all up in arms about the way the RD handled the event. If it had been a training day, would these people have continued?  Nothing scares me more than a DNF, but I have to think about tomorrow.  I can't work if I hurt myself in a race.  The heat in this race was an uncontoled element.  Lack of water at the aid stations was not the reason people had to stop, merely a symtom of the extreme weather.

What would people be saying if a tornado landed in the race couse and took all the water?  Would a refund be expected?

I'll play. I stand by my previous statements that I planned on having water at certain points. It was part of the total race package you pay for, a course and support. We're not talking about a random act of god causing failure to supply. We are talking about conditions that were known ahead of time.

I was sort of lucky in my defeatest attitude. I had mono two weeks ago and put cash in my back of gels in case I needed to cab back to the start. I used some of it to get gatorade and water at a 7-11.

yeah I took out my money since I am like why would I need. I really did not need it at all if it was done right.

I heard they are anouncing it tomorrow. I talked to my friends and omg some of the stuff I heard was I felt horrible. Like Runnners at the back should just natural carry all the water they need just in case. I am like if we did that then why pay for the race? I could go down this weekend and walk/run the course doing that and save $110. We do the race for the road closures and water/gatorade.

I thought about walking the course this weekend as a sort of protest/ make my marathon more official.

I would rather have an official time even it it was 8 hours for the marathon rather than $55. I paid $110 so I can do my race which I am sure if I had the gataraid I needed I would have done.

Pigfinn since its under your name you can look yourself up and see how far she went and if she did not finish you can get the stuff.

I found this a good read..

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/weather/chi-hersh-onoly09oct09,0...

It was interesting and yes I saw the cotton long sleaved shirts and pants but the pictures I saw were not all these out of shape runners that were colasping. We did not get a chance to colapse. .
