Total Time = 1h 14m 40s
Overall Rank = 95/404
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/30
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, ate 2 eggs, a bagel, and glass of skim milk. Dressed, and left at 5:30 so as not to get caught up in the traffic jam at the park entrance like last year. Arrived around 6:15, no traffic, slowly rode over to the transition area and set-up transition.
Event warmup:

Easy jog along the beach for about 10 minutes, then swam a couple of laps to the near buoy (about 250 yards).
Swim
  • 09m 6s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Hard to believe that compared to the field, this was my strongest event. I guess I'm becoming a decent swimmer. Even though my time was slightly slower than last year (because of the course change), I felt great. I knew as soon as I got out of the water I should have, and could have swam faster.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

I think I've got transitions wired. My T1 was 3/30. Very long, steep uphill run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 38m 47s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Did ok on the bike course. I'm satisfied with my split. I turned off my time and speed on my computer, instead focusing on keeping a high cadence. Worked! Changing to the compact on the Tri bike was a good idea for me.
What would you do differently?:

Push slightly higher gear.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

T2 fastest in my AG.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

Hard to believe this was my worst event (in my opinion). I should have been in the 22:10-20 range. Don't know what happened.
What would you do differently?:

Wear my stopwatch. Run faster
Post race
Warm down:

walked to the transition area, changed shirts, chatted with Lou, Dollar, and others.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Age? Hell, I don't know.

Event comments:

This is a great race. Better and more organized than last year.
I was dissappointed in the lack of respect shown by racers and the organizers during the playing of the National Anthem. The race announcer actually interupted the anthem at least 4 times. That sorta pissed me off. Also, very few racers showing any reverence what-so-ever. Sad.
Good race however.

You must just be getting "old and slow"! Great job on the swim, especially since you were limited in the pool this year. Have a great offseason and watch out for little girls on pink bikes!

Excellent race & nice race report.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you...Kazho & I shared your irritation re: the national anthem...the director interrupting it was even worse than the spectators not respecting it.  Glad you had a good race.

Nice race! Great job...like others have said, man, I hope I run 7:30's later in life!   Way fast transitions too!  That is too bad on the National Anthem..I can understand your frustration with that.  Way to have a great race though! Hooah!

Great job on the race.  Not only did I not get to race, I had to cancel my trip to Denver too.

I have plenty of free time for a while.  Let me know if you want to ride sometime.

Sounds like a very strong season finale for you.  Sorry you weren't feeling the run so much but you hammered out a great split (one that I'd kill for, however, I completely understand that it's all relative).  Congratulations on a great race.
