Overall Rank = 49/273
Age Group = 30-24
Age Group Rank = 12/41
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5am, got dressed took a waffle & PB for the road. Got to the race site around 6:15. They keep moving the parking area farther away from the start area at this race so we had about a mile to walk to the transition area. Body-marking &chip pick-up were kinda messy this year- lots of people everywhere. That's why I like getting to races early.
Event warmup:

Walk down to the beach...that's it.
Swim
  • 07m 59s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m / 100 yards
Comments:

Decided I was going to hammer the swim in this race. Started out good, navigation was good and I was really pushing my pace. Around the 100 yd point or so, some ________(fill in the blank)decided she wanted to swim over top of me. No biggie, I know that happens a lot in races. So I started swimming a little faster...I didn't kick her or slap or anything erratic...just sped up. I don't think she liked that, because she grabbed a big chunk of my tri top and tried to yank me back for like 10 seconds. Yeah, I was a little pissed. I'm all about competition, but that was just rude. Not really sure what happened, I kept trying to speed up and she either passed me or decided that this wasn't WWF wrestling and let go. I'm actually laughing about this now- what's up with people? SO ANYWAYS, get to the first buoy, then the second and head back to shore. Still feeling pretty good. A girl passed me at the very end doing backstroke- she was cruising along. Please tell me she was super fast college backstroker! An
What would you do differently?:

Kick the girl who grabbed my jersey in the eye. Not much else.
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

The T1 at this race site always SUCKS!!! It's always very long for most people because of the fun hill run you get to do out of the lake.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I could run faster up the hill, but today I was walking as fast as people were jogging.
Bike
  • 41m 37s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Not a bad bike for me. I hit my goal pace right on, but I would like to have been faster still. I think the hills on this course are always a little more challenging that I remember. Good ride overall, I passed a lot of guys and a few girls (not in AG) passed me. Then 1-2 girls in my AG passed me the last mile or so. I did only bring Gatorade on the bike and should have had water, but it wasn't a huge deal.
What would you do differently?:

Bring water instead of Gatorade for a course this short. Continue to increase my bike mileage.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Pretty good transition. During the bike, I thought I had a rock in my sock and was afraid I'd have to get it out, but it must have been nothing. Good. Grabbed visor, running shoes, race belt and a fuel belt bottle and took off.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to focus on transitions
Run
  • 28m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Kinda felt like I blew up on this run. I did try to keep a faster pace on the swim & bike, so I was pretty tired from the beginning of the run. I was carrying my own water, so that would shave a tiny bit of time off. I just got tired pretty fast. Made it to the halfway point and started getting a tiny cramp in my side. At this point I'd also seen 5-6 girls in my age group pass me a pretty fast pace. I ended up backing off my pace a little and then walking about 30 seconds on a short hill. I hate to say it but I was kinda over it mentally. Good thing this was a sprint, because I did feel ok after my short walk and I knew I was about at the finish. Tried to stop thinking about how I was tired and rounded the last corner and saw Kraig and Ron...sprinted up the last (stupid) hill and down to the finish. VERY glad to be done!
What would you do differently?:

Well I would have loved to have a faster run, but it's really not a bad run compared to other sprints. I'm sure I'm still tired from the Half last weekend and this race was a last minute addition. So really I need to just keep working on my run...and I'm not sure I'd do a Half and a Sprint right after each other. Whatever, it was still fun.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing, waited in a long line for t-shirts. Talked to a few people and left pretty quickly.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

South Carolina Half last weekend. Felt fine, but I'm sure I'm still recovering.

Event comments:

I do like the GA Multisports races, they are always good. It seemed like this year was a lot more crowded and they might have needed some more volunteers though. Not a huge deal- they still did a good race. The shirts this year are nice too!

That was a great race.  I can't believe that you were able to race a week after SC.  I still have trouble going up stairs.

Good race! I think it's funny that you pay so much attention to the AG on people's legs! You should just forget about it and run!

Great race! I was racing there yesterday too.  I felt like I did the same thing on the run.  The hills took more out of me than I thought on the bike and I just crashed on the run.  I would like to say that it was because I did a HIM the weekend before (but that would be a lie)! I can't believe someone actually grabbed you on this swim. So uncool! I had some contact but everyone was trying to avoid it. I even had someone say "sorry" which I have done. I still think it is kind of a girl thing to do because I don't think the guys are saying that to each other when they bump into one another.  Maybe they do. Anyway, congrat to you.  I am new to Alpharetta to I will probably run into you at some point.  BTW, how did you get your splits.  Did you time them yourself or are they up now?

GREAT job - I am so impressed that you did this a week after your first HIM!! I have never had anyone swim over me in a race, that description makes me a little happier I'm not as fast as you to be near that kind of competition! Great job on the bike and keeping it going on the run. Your run has been getting stronger all season, I am excited to see your progress continue next year! CONGRATS on a strong race!

Great job, especially since you were most certainly still not recovered from the SC Half. I think you learned something by hammering the swim and bike, that being that you need to work on your run so you can hammer that too!! There are no limits to how fast you can be, keep working on it and you will be the one blowing by the girls in your AG.

Oh and by the way Tennessee still sucks....!

Congrats on an awesome race and improvement over last year. Good job staying with the run and pushing it on the swim and bike, especially following SC last week. You had an awesome tri season and made some great progress this year. It definitely will be fun to watch you and race with you next year.

Was good to see you out there. This was the first race in a long time where I knew so few. You had a strong race. Was glad to read that you got the competative juices flowing before the race when you mentioned hammering the swim. One thing though.. swimmer grabs any part of you, swimmer ends up with a bruise somewhere. Great job on finishing the season so strong.

Great job, Courtney.  I thought that I pushed it doing two races in two weeks last year but you knocked it out of the park with a HIM and a sprint on back-to-back weekends.  Way to end up a great season.  You just keep getting stronger.

It has been said before ... "One touch on the swim is an accident, two? Start kicking + sharpening elbows."

Great race to cap-out the tri-season.

Nice race........especially after a Half IM the weekend before. Not sure what I would do if someone grabbed me during the swim like that (I like your idea though...). I talked to someone after the race who got his goggles elbowed off his face and I think he had to finish without them.

Great job Courtney and great RR. I have no idea where these super fast girls keep coming from in our AG! I have the same problem about looking at the previous year's results -- maybe we need to stop. One of these days maybe I could say I'm (almost) as speedy as you. Nice way to finish your tri season!
