Subject: RE: Ever get enough sleep before a race? I am a NERVOUS WRECK the week leading up to race week, but have gotten quite good at getting myself to go to sleep. I've only traveled to one race, though, and I did not sleep well the night before. From my hotel room, I could hear the traffic on the street below me, and the guy in the next room snorning. I had to turn on the loud air conditioner to drown out those noises. Once I got used to that loud hum, I fell asleep. But then, I was awoken by my cell phone a few times by some brilliant friends and family members (including my own father) who thought it would be nice to send me good-luck text messages in the middle of the night. Those all woke me up. (I had my cell phone on, because I used it as a back-up alarm clock.) That said, I barely slept but was okay come race morning. Sorry for the banjo-playin, horse-with-no-name singing neighbors. I hate that song...that would have killed me. If you sleep well days 4, 3, and 2, before the race, a bad night's sleep the night before usually won't affect you much. |
