Right now, if this option is selected, someone not on your friends list can get to your blog but not see your daily log data. They can see other stuff: your friends; monthly mileage; …

However, if you make your blog private, any user who tries to access your blog is redirected to the BT home page. Can you do the same for “only friends?”

Ex: If you select “Only allow your friends…” then, if someone tries to access your blog, and isn’t on your friends list, redirect them to the BT home page instead of just hiding your daily log entries.

Good catch. I agree with you. Shouldn't be tough to do.

Hey Mike,

Just wondering: Any idea when this will be implemented?

Thanks!

I thought this was a good idea when Cappy made the OP.  But now I'm not so sure -- if this is implemented, won't you become completely invisible to anyone who's not one of your friends?  I prefer to have my "friends" read my daily logs, but I a) don't want to force people who correspond with/inspire me occasionally to add me to THEIR friends list, and b) don't want to be entirely invisible to new potential friends, if I join new threads, conversations, challenges, etc.  Maybe this is something that could use some input from the masses before implementation?

Related question...unless I'm just confused:

I was playing in BT blogger this morning & was interested in the "teaser" that was displayed for someone. When I clicked to go to their blog, I got the "This person has chosen not to display their data." message....

I'm wondering if that person thought only their friends could see what they wrote, when instead it was actually up (at least in part) in Blogger? (Or maybe I'm confused?)

That's the "problem" with the existing functionality. If you choose to "Only let your friends" view your blog, then anyone who is not on your friend list shouldn’t
t even be able to get to your blog. It should be treated as Private for anyone not on your friend list.

And, if a person sets their blog to private, or Friends Only, then the shouldn't show up in the BT Blogger, even if they have a blog title. But, if a person wants to go that private, they can just remove the blog title and they won't show up in the blogger.

We're trying to minimize any programming to the real site while we finish testing the multiple logging feature on the development site (since it effects all the log pages.  We just don't want to have to maintain two versions until we go live with the multiple logging...which should be soon, I've been testing it.  Once live, then we can easily implement the changes to the Friends list.

Sounds like a good plan!

I've been following this thread too Cappy and I'm in total agreement with you.  Members should have the ability to make their 'Blog' completely private if they choose.

Programmer has been in radio silence.  That means he should be working hard and finishing the mutliple logging up...unless I hear otherwise, it should be this month.  Like Cappy's other thread on some blogger-nutrition settings, we will do this mod too after the multiple logging is live but BEFORE we add anything else to the plate.

Done, it redirects non-freinds to homepage for 'only allow friends'...

We will have to put a little more work into this later so people actually know why they are begin dumped on the homepage.

I really dislike this feature.  I find it divisive and cliquish, everything BT was not supposed to be.

that's all.  Carry on.

There's a major upside to this you may not be thinking of.

It allows a degree of privacy and security for people who have a legitimate need to limit access to that kind of personal information, but don't want to cut everyone off.

We've found that it's been really well received by some folks who've gone through rough break ups and some bad divorces. It's also allowed for some women who've had problems with stalker types in the real world to continue to use their blogs to safely connect with friends about their training and lives in general.

Without this feature, the only choice some people would have would be to make their training log totally private, or to gasp! not use BT at all.

yes, I hadn't thought of that because that's not the usage I've been seeing.
